Quiz: Where are Charles and Diana Ingram today?
Married couple Charles and Diana Ingram became the subject of national obsession thanks to their appearance on ITV game-show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
Diana and her brother had already appeared on the show, scooping a cool £30,000 each during their stints.
But it was Charles – a major in the British army – who became one of the rare contestants to scoop the £1 million jackpot.
But things weren’t as they seemed. The episode where Charles won was pulled from the air and he was arrested over suspicions that he had cheated his way to his winnings, thanks to well-timed coughs from plants in the studio audience letting him know which answer was right.
What were Charles and Diana Ingram charged with?
Both Charles and Diana were arrested and put on trial for the cheating claims, alongside supposed co-conspirator Tecwen Whittok.
They were both found guilty on one single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception and given suspended prison sentences of almost two years.
They also had to pay hefty legal fees, with the couple coughing up £115,000.
Where are Charles and Diana Ingram today?
Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press at the launch of Quiz, the show’s writer James Graham gave a little insight into the fate of the Grahams after their trial made them national obsessions.
‘They lost their reputation,’ he explained. ‘The Major was kicked out of the army, they went bankrupt I think – I think now they’ve been made bankrupt four times.’
For a while, the couple courted fame however – knocking up appearances on several reality shows including Celebrity Wife Swap, Hell’s Kitchen, Celebrity Poker Club and Fear Factor UK.
They were last seen on our screens in 2006, where they took part in a celebrity couples version of The Weakest Link.
Now, according to The Independent, the couple are living in Bath, where Diana makes and sells her own jewelry in local market stalls and over the internet.
According to Diana’s website, the products are ‘fashioned using Murano glass beads, Swarovski crystals, seawater and freshwater pearls or crystals and other semi-precious gemstones in the most beautiful styles.’
Quiz writer Graham has previously said that the Ingram’s were ‘happy’ with their portrayal in the three-part drama, where they’ll be played by Spooks star Matthew MacFayden and Fleabag’s Sian Clifford respectively.
‘We spoke to everybody [involved],’ Graham said. ‘We deliberately engaged with them very early on.’
‘I think, I hope, that since we are raising the possibility that all is not as it seems, they seem quite pleased that this conversation is being had.’
Quiz airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
