Pride Of Britain memorable moments – Cheryl getting pied to Peter Kay surprise
The Pride of Britain Awards can always be relied upon to pull at the heart-strings and warm the cockles of your soul.
The ceremony celebrates the achievements of truly remarkable people who make the nation a better place with their inspirational tales of courage, generosity and bravery.
It's been described as the most uplifting award ceremonies of the year, and the 2019 bash was no different.
As the event enters its milestone second decade, we take a look back over some of the most memorable moments.
Cheryl gets pied
Cheryl proved herself to be a very good sport when she presented a brave schoolboy with the Child of Courage Award at the height of her Girls Aloud heyday.
Hero Cameron Small, 12 at the time, had been to hospital over 900 times in his short life.
Despite his illness, determined Cameron turned into an unrelenting fundraiser to help other sick children to feel normal in hospital.
On POB night Cameron was surprised by none other than chart-toppers Girls Aloud.
But Carol Vorderman has another shock in store, as she vowed to donate £1,000 to Cameron's charity if he'd fling a custard pie in a celebrity face.
Chezza stepped forward and volunteered to be his victim with Cameron gleefully shoved the cake right into her face.
Veteran Henry Allingham has a few things to get off his chest
Late World War One veteran Henry Allingham remembered things that most of us have only ever read about in textbooks.
At the time of the 2007 ceremony he was aged 111 and he had a few things to get off his chest.
The ceremony might have been packed full of famous names from across the world, but valiant Henry stole the show.
He was given a Special Recognition Award for all the educational visits he carried out and Dames Vera Lynn and Shirley Bassey presented the award.
Maybe the sight of them in their beautiful evening gowns restarted Henry's engine.
He grabbed the microphone from presenter Carol Vorderman and treated the audience to a hilariously passionate monologue about one of his favourite subjects – women.
His tribute to the fairer sex lasted 20 minutes and had to be cut from the final edit.
But he had the likes of Matt Lucas, David Walliams and JK Rowling crying tears of laughter.
He attracted more admirers than heartthrob Jude Law and left covered in lipstick, a very happy man.
Prince William shows his true colours
Royalty in the form of Prince William attended the 2017 ceremony, with the Duke of Cambridge showing solidarity with a young Pride of Britain winner.
Moin Younis, won the nation's hearts when he collected his Teenager of Courage award at a star studded ceremony.
The 17-year-old has Epidermolysis bullosa, which makes his skin blister and tear at the slightest touch.
Despite his constant pain Moin worked as an ambassador for the Acorns Children’s Hospice, Birmingham.
During his time on stage, Moin was quizzed by host Carol about his love of Aston Villa and he joked: "Is there a problem?
Host Carol then said: "I don't know if there are actually any other Aston Vila fans in the house tonight."
Cheeky Moin replied: "I think I know one", and pointed at Prince William, who saluted him and smiled at him from the audience, while sporting a Villa scarf over his suit.
Flight-attendant awarded for delivering premature baby at 30,000ft
It was one of the most emotional moments ever seen on The Mirror’s Pride Of Britain.
Carol Miller stepped on to the stage to a standing ovation from the star-studded audience to receive her award for saving the life of baby Alfie.
Alfie weighed just 1lb and needed desperate medical attention when he was born three months prematurely – and 30,000 ft up in the air – during a flight to Crete.
But flight attendant Carol saved the day by delivering the tiny baby then resuscitating him with a straw.
At the ceremony, Carol was reunited with baby Alfie and his parents who thanked her for saving his life.
If that wasn't enough, Carol had also been surprised by comedian Peter Kay ahead of the ceremony.
The funnyman left Carol Miller lost for words when he popped into her airport to personally deliver her invite.
Peter had some fun with his appearance as he went on the tanoy to (jokingly) announced a flight to Tenerife was delayed for four hours.
David Beckham makes a little girl very happy
Pride of Britain winner Ella received the much deserved Child of Courage award from her club hero, David Beckham leading to some incredibly moving scenes.
At 11-years old Ella Chadwick, a double kidney transplant patient from Rochdale, has gone through more than most of us would in a lifetime.
Yet despite her limited mobility she still finds the time to pen and deliver get well cards to others on her ward at Great Ormond Street Hospital .
In 2017 Ella received a card herself from her hero, football superstar David Beckham – only nobody told Ella he would be delivering it personally-and her reaction was just too cute to handle!
A giggling Ella went into melt down when she saw the footballer.
"Oh my god! Hi David Beckham!" she cried.
When David says: "You look very pretty I like your bow", a totally star struck Ella brushed her hair from her face and says "I know!".
She then put David to work, delivering hand written card across the world.
Speaking about the day Ella said: “I feel amazing. I wasn’t even nervous. It takes me a very very long time to make these cards. It took days. There is lots of glitter and pens everywhere. It’s amazing to win this award for making the cards. David Beckham helped me with the spelling. But no, he isn’t a good speller!”
