Power announces three spin-off series fronted by Tommy, Kanan and Tate after explosive finale
POWER has announced three spin-off series fronted by Tommy, Kanan and Tate after its explosive finale.
The Starz series came to an end on Sunday night, with fans finally finding out who shot Ghost.
But fans don't need to feel too bereft as the network has now greenlit three more spin-off series centring around characters from the original show.
One is called Power Book III: Raising Kanan and is a prequel to Power set in the 1990s.
It will chronicle the early years of Kanan Stark, played in Power by executive producer Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson.
Meanwhile Power Book IV: Influence will focus on Rashad Tate, the dodgy politician played by Larenz Tate in the original show.
The third spin-off will be Power Book V: Force, which will follow Tommy (played by Joseph Sikora) as he "cuts ties and puts New York in his rearview mirror for good".
The three new shows are in addition to Power Book II: Ghost, which stars Mary J. Blige and picks up days after the events of the Power series finale.
Ghost will see Power creator Courtney Kemp serve as showrunner and she told TV Line the first two spin-offs "have really strong female characters in a way that I am trying to push even further than what we had in the original Power.
"Mary’s character is like super strong and interesting, and the same is true of the lead characters in the next spin-off after that.
"I think women, especially women of colour, but all women, are going to find really great inspiration while watching as we move forward."
Courtney will also be an executive producer on the other spin-off shows alongside 50 Cent.
Power first aired on Starz in June 2014 and ran for six seasons until Sunday night's conclusion.
