Piers Morgan slammed for ‘making Captain Tom tribute all about him’ on GMB

Piers Morgan has been slammed for making Sir Captain Tom Moore's tribute all about him on Good Morning Britain today.

The show kicked off with tributes and clips spanning over the 100-year-old veteran's last year after he rose to fame last April when he took on the challenge of walking up and down his garden 100 times to raise money for the NHS.

As the world and the National Health Service battled the coronavirus, Captain Moore was the light at the end of the tunnel as he went on to raise a staggering £33million for the NHS – £39m with gift aid.

ITV fans were quick to praise GMB for dedicating today's show to Captain Moore but at 6.30am when Piers and his co-star Susanna Reid came on to present, viewers quickly got annoyed with Piers.

Opening up his tribute, Piers claimed that Captain Moore's daughter Hannah had called him an hour before the news broke to the world that her dad had died.

Piers said: "I had the honour of Captain Tom's daughter Hannah calling me an hour before the news of his death broke to tell me.

"I told her that as soon as she made the announcement they would be met with nothing but love and support from the nation."

Throughout the show the presenter, who interviewed Captain Moore on numerous occasions, dropped in how close they had become.

Interrupting Susanna's tribute at one point, Piers recalled how Captain Moore would occasionally call him for a natter.

Piers said: "We became close. Captain Tom would often call me and we would have a little chat."
