Phoebe Waller-Bridge says James Bond intrigues her like Killing Eve's Villanelle

Woman-of-the-moment Phoebe Waller-Bridge has compared James Bond to her Killing Eve assassin Villanelle.

The Fleabag creator has been brought on board the next 007 movie, directed by Cary Fukunaga, to sprinkle her magic on the script.

Phoebe, 34, says the two characters, played by Daniel Craig and Jodie Comer respectively are equally intriguing to her.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘There’s something about James Bond that always intrigued me in a similar way that Villanelle did. They live a fantasy!

‘But it’s a life none of us would ever want, if we’re honest. We don’t want to go put a bullet in someone’s head to sleep with people and have martinis. It’s a kind of fantasy nightmare.

‘A lot has been made of me coming on board because I’m a woman, and that’s wonderful. But also I can’t take credit for the movie that was written. It’s Cary’s movie.’

Phoebe was also quizzed about the rumours that Lashana Lynch is on board as another 007.

‘The whole thing has potential to birth new iconic characters all the time,’ she said.

The Solo: A Star Wars Story actress previously said she hopes to ‘sneak’ her signature feminist humour into the Bond script.

She told The Observer: ‘It’s mainly about making them feel like real people, which they do in the previous films. I think Daniel’s films have had really fantastic Bond girls and it’s about keeping that up.’

The final series of her hit BBC comedy Fleabag aired earlier this year.
