Peter Andre's doctor wife Emily says she doubts lockdown will work as she opens up about his coronavirus battle

PETER Andre's doctor wife Emily has said she doesn't think lockdowns work as her husband battles coronavirus.

The 31-year-old NHS worker opened up on the subject after The Sun revealed the 47-year-old singer is struggling with the disease.

Writing in OK! magazine Emily said: "I don’t have much confidence that lockdown actually works."

She added that the harsh restrictions on movement have been in place for nearly a year but "not much has changed".

Emily explained that the whole family, including their children Amelia, seven, and Theo, four, had to avoid hugging Peter until his self-isolation passes.

The star added: "We’re in a national lockdown now and I think it’s good we’ve taken action, because things would have only got worse, but I don’t have much confidence that lockdown actually works.

"We seem to have been doing it for nearly a year and not much has changed, but that’s not to say that I know what the right thing is.

"I don’t think we have many options at the moment to prevent the NHS from becoming overwhelmed."

She added that she was worried about the impact school closures will have on children, adding that she hoped Amelia would still be able to go because of her status as a key worker.

Emily, a junior doctor who often gives health advice on TV's Lorraine, met Peter in 2010 while she was still a medical student.

The Sun revealed Peter has been diagnosed with coronavirus last week, with a source explaining: “He started feeling unwell a few days ago.

"He didn’t suspect that he had Covid, despite feeling extremely tired and unwell.

"But he decided to go for a test to make sure as he started feeling very weak, which is unusual for him and he struggles to breathe sometimes."

They added that Peter had no idea how he caught the virus as “he’s barely been out and has spent most of his time at home with his family”.
