Netflix is expected to be dropping season five the following year with the fourth series recently being made available on the platform.

Filming started in 2018 with behind-the-scenes shots posted on the official Peaky Blinders Twitter account to tease fans.

Peaky Blinders is also set for a major shake-up by the broadcaster after it was announced that it would be moving from BBC Two to BBC One.

BBC executive Charlotte Moore said: ”Peaky Blinders is world class drama at the top of its game and the time has arrived for it to move to the UK’s biggest channel.

“Steven Knight’s epic storytelling is authentic and utterly compelling and I want to give it the chance to be enjoyed by an even broader audience on BBC One.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better response to series four and the impact it had with young audiences.

“This move will also give BBC Two more creative headroom to experiment with new drama.”

Fans are still going to be waiting for an exact release date but can get their Peaky Blinders fix on Netflix with seasons one to four currently streaming on the platform.

WILL THERE BE ANOTHER SEASON OF PEAKY BLINDERS?

Steve Knight, who created the BBC drama, told Express.co.uk previously about season five: “It’s in my head, it’s not the best place for it to be. So I’m going to start writing that very soon and we will start shooting it next year. We will start shooting in the autumn.”

The BBC show will be in production for a year and fans will have to wait a little while for the next season.

Knight added: “It will be the normal turn around, it would be [airing in] spring of 2019.”

Since then Knight revealed to Digital Spy that Peaky Blinders will be going on for some time yet – three seasons more to be precise.

Is there a trailer for Peaky Blinders season 5?

No, there’s no full trailer for season five but the BBC did offer fans a first look glimpse at Tommy Shelby in action after releasing a 2019 drama trailer.

In the brief clips from the new series of Peaky Blinders, Tommy Shelby appeared to be close to death as a car was seen set alight while the Brummie gangster lay on the ground in disbelief.

The clip hinted that Tommy could be in danger with a possible assassination attempt on his life.

In another shot, Tommy was seen looking down, perhaps as he was about to kill an enemy, again confirming the danger set to be coming to the mobster clan.

A full trailer for Peaky Blinders season five is likely to be released soon. We’ll update this article when a trailer does drop.

PEAKY BLINDERS SEASON 5 CAST

What will happen in Peaky Blinders season 5?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Peaky Blinders season 4

Knight said of the new series: “1929. Wall Street Crash. That’s how it starts and they lose all their money and so they have to find other ways of making money.

“It’s set in ’29 into the 30s. Tommy is now a politician, so it’s about some of the political developments that were happening that will eventually lead to the Second World War.”

He said the show would be firmly set in Birmingham in the UK and not take things to America as was previously thought.

However, there have been fan theories that Tommy Shelby could be shot dead in the new series.

The BBC also shared a first look picture from season five showing that Tommy Shelby could be facing the darkest forces ever on the show.

Fans are continuing to speculate about Tommy Shelby’s death in season five with the BBC teasing a possible demise.

Previously, Knight declined to give any details about what will happen in season five, saying: “I don’t want to give away how series four ends because it’s going to go in a particular direction.”

His words suggest that there will be a big plot development in the season four finale that could change the course of the drama.

On the season four finale of the BBC series, Knight said: “Hopefully it will end in a way that is expected and of course set up season five but not in a way that anyone will be looking for.”

Season four ended with Tommy entering the world of politics after he was elected into office, suggesting that this will be the new direction of Peaky Blinders.

Who will be in the cast of Peaky Blinders season 5?

The ensemble cast will be back again for the next run which seems likely to comprise of six more episodes.

Sadly, Joe Cole will not be back as John Shelby after his character was killed off by the Sicilian mafia in a Christmas massacre.

It is not known whether Tom Hardy will return as rival London mafia godfather Alfie Solomons but he’s a fan favourite and could make a comeback.

Much like the previous seasons, there will most likely be some big names attached to Peaky Blinders season five.

Season five is confirmed to feature a raft of new characters in the form of Hunger Games actor Sam Claflin, Anya Taylor-Joy, Neil Maskell from Utopia and Emmett J. Scanlan.

Oscar winner Adrien Brody and Game of Thrones actor Aidan Gillen will be featuring in season four and play a pivotal part in the story.

Will Peaky Blinders return for season 6?

There is no word yet whether there will be a Peaky Blinders season six, however, given the show’s popularity it looks likely to be renewed for another run.

Knight revealed he would consider directing the last-ever episode of Peaky Blinders but not the whole series because of other commitments.

There have been reports Peaky Blinders will be renewed for two more seasons amid the show’s continued popularity.

Knight explained: “I’ve always had a pretty clear road map of how this works between World War One and World War Two, and it’s flexible in that you can get to the destination quicker or slower.

“So in may mind it’s probable that we’ll get there at the end of series five, it may be series six.”

On whether season six would definitely happen, the writer explained: “It’s possible, the momentum of this show is quite extraordinary in that it seems to be getting bigger and more popular and there seems to be more energy with each one.
