Ozark plot hole: Ruth should have been arrested for robbing Marty – here’s why
Ruth Langmore (played by Julia Garner) has had anything but an easy ride throughout the first three seasons of Ozark. Netflix viewers have watched as she has transformed from the reckless, loud-mouth teen plotting Marty’s death (Jason Bateman) to the business-savvy, hardened casino manager fans saw in season three. While she may have come into her own in the latest series, the second season saw her live in the shadow of her abusive father Cade Langmore (Trevor Long).

In Ozark season two, Cade was released from prison and moved back into the trailer park with his daughter and nephew Wyatt (Charlie Tahan).
However, Cade’s criminal ways didn’t leave him despite his time behind bars as he quickly reverted back to his illegal antics.
And as soon as he got wind of Marty’s multi-million dollar laundering business, it didn’t take long for Cade to plot against him.
However, it was during one his attempts to rob Marty that a rather glaring plot hole has opened up during an attempted robbery at a funeral home.

Using Ruth as a way-in, Cade manipulated her to give up Marty’s secrets and money.
Marty had been cautious, however, leaving Ruth rather in the dark as to where he hid the cash.
Nevertheless, Ruth convinced her dad the money was stashed in Marty and Wendy’s (Laura Linney) newly acquired funeral home.
Without skipping a beat, Cade and his daughter headed there to rob him, breaking in and disarming the alarm system.
Once inside, Ruth and Cade broke into a storage room where Marty and Wendy kept the coffins
The pair began hastily slashing the linings of the coffins and throwing the caskets in an attempt to find the loot.
Their efforts were to no avail, however, as the Langmores had to escape empty-handed – but not before Cade let out his frustrations by striking his daughter.
So where does the plot hole lie? Well, one eagle-eyed fan has spotted a continuity error which should’ve completely changed the narrative of the series.
Once they enter the room with the coffins, a security camera can be seen in plain sight to the top right of the door.
Neither Ruth or Cade spot the device so it goes untouched and, presumably, capturing everything that happens in the room.
This was slightly odd as the pair had spent the moments before entering the room spray painting the lenses of the other cameras in the building.
However, just moments later, the camera is nowhere to be seen as Cade confronts his daughter.

Surely if there was a security camera in the room, Marty would’ve spotted the Langmore duo?
And if he did, there’s no way he would’ve continued to work with Ruth, let alone not give her up to the police.
Therefore, shouldn’t ruth have ended up behind bars going into the third season?
While it’s clearly a continuity error, it’s certainly a big enough to cast doubt on the entire series.
Ozark is available to stream on Netflix now.
