Outlander: Jamie and Claire to have their own spin-off series? Writer lets slip plans

Throughout the first four seasons of Outlander, it’s fair to say the love story between Claire Randall (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) has engrossed viewers. With the pair the only two to star in every episode of the Starz series, they also feature heavily in the Diana Gabaldon-created books on which the show is based. Their popularity could continue in their own spin-off if Gabaldon’s hints are anything to go by.

Will Jamie and Claire have an Outlander spin-off series?

Unfortunately for now, Starz is yet to announce plans for a Claire and Jamie spin-off.

In fact, the network only recently announced the confirmed release date for Outlander season five of February 16, 2020.

With a few months to go to see Claire and Jamie back on screens, fans may be able to expect a new story for the pair courtesy of Gabaldon, however.

Gabaldon suggested on her website Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon) could have his own line of novels which would feature the pair heavily.

The Outlander creator said: “Master Raymond should get his own series of books, eventually.

“So in fact, we’ll see Claire, Jamie, and Geillis (Lotte Verbeek) again,

“But as secondary characters in Master Raymond’s story (you recall, Geillis mentions having met ‘one other’ (time-traveler in Voyager, but doesn’t tell Claire who it is).

“Heaven knows just when we’ll get to that – in about 10 years, at this rate – but we will get to it.”

The character of Master Raymond barely features in Outlander on Starz but Gabaldon regards him as one of the story’s main characters.

However, despite hinting Claire and Jamie could appear in a future spin-off story of his, the author confirmed Maser Raymond wouldn’t be seen in the future of theirs.

She said: “We’ll see him again–though not in Jamie and Claire’s story, I don’t think.”

Again, whether this will be reflected in season five or future series of Outlander is yet to be seen.

After all, there have been a number of times the series has veered away from the narrative of the books.

Should Master Raymond reunite with Claire and Jamie on Outlander, it would be a big shock, however.

The character hasn’t been seen since season two, episode seven, Faith.

Actor Pinon also hasn’t publicly ruled out a return to Outlander.

Outlander season 5 premieres on Starz on February 16, 2020.
