Doctor Who fans tuned in to watch the season 13 premiere on Sunday night. The BBC sci-fi kicked off its new series with a bang and introduced a new companion. John Bishop made his debut on the show playing Liverpudlian Dan. However, some viewers were unimpressed with his performance, with some comparing him with former Doctor Who star Bradley Walsh.

Doctor Who burst onto screens on Sunday night with the famous Time Lord attempting to save planet Earth from an alien invasion.

However, as viewers watched John’s debut episode of Doctor Who, some suggested he wasn’t a good replacement for Bradley.

Fans swiftly took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with many highlighting how much they missed Bradley’s character on the show.

“Sorry but John Bishop is not a good trade for Bradley Walsh nowhere near the same level of eye candy or whatever the equivalent is for your ears #DoctorWho #DoctorWhoFlux,” @__meenu__ commented.

“I miss Bradley Walsh #DoctorWho,” @KayliePaylie said.

“Really missing Bradley Walsh, ngl #DoctorWho,” @uisgebeatha remarked.

Meanwhile, others made it clear they weren’t too pleased with the addition of John’s character.

@Pub_Bloke wrote: “Despite all the efforts to make John Bishop’s character likeable, I can’t help hoping that dog kills him. #DoctorWhoFlux #DoctorWho.”

“Really not liking John Bishop so far in #DoctorWho why can’t they just leave it as Yaz and the Doctor? the whole issue with previous seasons was it was too crowded in the tardis,” @emilymaylowrey remarked.

Luckily it wasn’t all bad news for the comedian turned actor, as some viewers seemed to enjoy his appearance on the sci-fi show.

@EastieOaks said: “#DoctorWho John Bishop is actually fun to watch in this.”

Viewers were introduced to John’s character Dan as a proud scouser with a heart of gold.

However, he’s soon whisked away from his beloved Liverpool and finds himself in the hands of an alien.

Later on in the episode he met Yaz (played by Mandip Gill) and The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker).

However, together the group soon discovered that planet earth was in grave danger.

Viewers will have to return for the next episode on Sunday to find out what happens next.

The story is set to continue throughout the six-episode mini-series Doctor Who Flux.

The series marks the beginning of the end for Jodie as she heads towards her final episodes as the Doctor at the end of 2022.

Doctor Who Flux continues Sunday at 6:15pm on BBC One.
