Netflix Mindhunter fans terrified by 'jaw dropping, creepy as f***' final BTK serial killer scene

FANS bingeing on Netflix's latest series of Mindhunter have ended up with more than they bargained for as the final scene with the BTK serial killer has left many unable to sleep.

The horrifying real life fiend – actual name Dennis Lynn Rader – is one of the targets of agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) in season two of the show, which was released on 16 August.

The show follows the two FBI agents in the late 70s and 80s as they try to understand the twisted minds of America's most dangerous serial killers in order to catch them.

During their dogged pursuit, they end up pioneering the development of modern-day serial killer profiling.

While season 2 focused on the Atlanta murders from 1979 to 1981, where 28 African American children, teens and adults were killed in the Georgian capital, the scariest part of the whole show was the presence of the BTK killer.

The name stands for Bind, Torture, Kill, and he was one of the most sadistic killers in American history, responsible for the murder of a family and a string of women.

BTK worked at ADT Security Services where he installed security alarms in Wichita for people concerned about the killings.

While there's not much gore in the show, Mindhunter's final scene – with BTK strangling himself over the photos of his victims (the murderer was a fan of erotic asphyxiation) – has got underneath people's skins.

One fan summed up everyone's feelings with: "HOLY S*** THAT FINAL SCENE IN MINDHUNTER GIVES ME A F***ING CREEP. HOLY F***."

Another agreed: "That ending to mindhunter is for sure going to give me nightmares f*** sake."

A third added: "Mindhunter delivers it's second season on a silver platter. And my god it delivers it like a jolt of thunder. It sends waves of shock throughout and keeps you helpless with terror. By the end its just jaw dropping to witness that final scene. #Mindhunter"

Now people can't stop thinking about it, as one person wrote while posting a GIF of someone pointing a gun: "Me checking the perimeter of the apartment for the BTK killer, even though I know he's in jail, because that final scene of #Mindhunter spooked me."

Season two also premiered creepy serial killer Charles Manson – with actor Damon Herriman playing him in both this show and Quentin Tarantino's latest flick Once Upon a Time in Holiday.

While there's been no confirmation of a season three by Netflix so far, star Holt McCallany said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that director David Fincher asked if he was "ready to do this for five seasons? Because even if I f*** this up, it's gonna go five seasons, and I don't intend to f*** it up."

So it's safe to assume another is in the works.
