NCIS: What did Gibbs whisper to Ziva? Cote de Pablo spills all
Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ (played by Mark Harmon) whispered words to Ziva in season seven have become part of NCIS lore. Fans of the CBS series have been left wondering for a decade what he actually whispered to her. Cote de Pablo, however, has revealed exactly why Mark Harmon whispers in scenes.
What did Gibbs whisper to Ziva?
If de Pablo is to be believed, Harmon likes to whisper to people things that will give them the right reaction for a scene.
The actress told TVInsider: “Mark does that all the time.
“He’ll whisper in your ear right before a take or talk to you about stuff you don’t want to talk about.
“And then afterward he’ll go, ‘Oh, by the way, I was just doing that so we can get a take.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, you little—’”
Harmon, however, kept his cards close to his chest when asked what he said.
He told the publication: “You’re not getting this from me.
“It’s not so much a secret but an actor thing.”
However, he did go into more detail about this technique and why he felt comfortable about doing it with de Pablo.
He said: “When you know people well and you know how they work, it comes from respect.
“It’s not about manipulation. I know how she rolls. And she knows me the same way.”
However, with NCIS season 17 due to delve deep into the relationship between Gibbs and Ziva, the first episode could see an in-show explanation developed for what he said to her.
Showrunner Steven Binder told Parade: “The initial genesis of this story was — and this is a clue — it’s something that has been part of the fabric of the show, her character and the introduction of her character from the very beginning.
“So, we’re playing with the DNA of Ziva David in terms of this jeopardy.
“This isn’t some newly created arch-nemesis conspiracy theory or conspiracy that she’s tried to get out from beneath.
He added: “This will tie into the lore and history of the show.”
Fans can see for themselves very soon if the show will reveal exactly what Gibbs said to Ziva.
NCIS season 17 starts September 24 on CBS.
