Naked Attraction boss issues warning as star admits they ‘shake themselves’

Anna Richardson defends Naked Attraction on Gabby Logan’s podcast

Naked Attraction’s boss has revealed the reality of getting stars to strip off for auditions, admitting some have a “hard time” with it.

The show, which is now airing uncensored in the US on HBO, has caused quite a stir due to its full-frontal nudity.

The executive producer, Darrell Olsen, doesn’t want a “watered down” version of his Channel 4 hit to air in America.

He told the Hollywood Reporter: “Being naked on national TV is a huge deal for people.

“The point of getting naked during the audition is if you can’t do it in front of a couple production people, you’re going to have a really hard time on the actual show.”

He added: “Also, part of it is for people to be able to describe their own bodies and what they like and dislike about themselves.

“For us to get a sense of their energy and if they can make jokes. So if they’re too reticent, they’re not right.”

The show’s casting is “tough”, but they always find the right people. Even though some drop out, it’s rare just before filming.

Gavin, who got through, said auditions are about 45 minutes.

“I went down to Newcastle, sat down and chatted with a camerawoman and a male interviewee,” he recalled.

“Then they said ‘Can you take your clothes off now and pitch yourself to us?’ It wasn’t so awkward, they made me feel at ease.

“You were sweating because there was a light shining on you, but there was a draught so it was a bit cold, so there was quite a lot of shaking going on by the boys.

“Whenever the camera wasn’t on, everyone was shaking themselves to try and make themselves look bigger.”

He also said it’s “quite hard to get rejected” and most applicants reach the final stages.

Channel 4 does a thorough check on applicants, including background and mental health.

The form states: “If you are shortlisted, you agree to undergo a psychological assessment by an independent psychologist.”

The document states: “You acknowledge that we will be carrying out background checks, including criminal record background checks, on all contributors.

“If you have anything in your past or you become involved in any criminal and/or civil proceedings or other conduct that may attract negative press or publicity at any time after submitting this application, you will make us aware of it immediately.”
