Naga, 45, was on hand to report on the latest headlines this weekend, joined in the BBC Breakfast studio by her co-star Jon, 51. One such story they were discussing was the big switch-on of the Blackpool Illuminations on Friday night, which celebrated the front line and NHS workers who continued with their duties throughout the coronavirus pandemic. However, following the report on the heartwarming story, the host made an attempt to leave the BBC set.

This year, for the first time ever, the light show will be extended by two months, meaning members of the public can enjoy the illuminations until the beginning of January.

With the camera back in the studio, Jon could be heard telling his co-star: “We’ve got to go. We’ve got to go.

“We’ve got until the end of the year – we’ve got to go. Not go now but go to Blackpool and look at the illuminations.”

Naga then gestured to make it seem she was going to get out of her seat and leave her fellow anchor to present solo.

It was then her colleague issued his warning by telling her: “You’ve got to stay. You’ve got three and a half hours work to do.”

“Definitely not [going leave],” Jon continued, before telling viewers Naga was going to stay in her seat to present alongside him.

“I’ll make sure of it,” he added, with his colleague laughing off the comical moment between the hosts.

Before reading the headlines making up the newspapers on Saturday, the presenter assured her co-star she was “committed” to her role.

Later on in the programme, the pair then spoke about the use of large plastic sheets being used for people to hug one another, becoming a loophole for social distancing.

The two broadcasters discussed the matter with weather presenter Sarah Keith-Lucas, 38, following the latest forecast.

With lots of sunshine on the horizon, Naga said: “Do you know what sun feels like on your skin? It feels like a big hug.

“We’re talking about hugging this morning. Are you a hugger, Sarah, when you’re allowed to?” the BBC journalist asked her co-star.

“I am. I miss the hugs a lot and especially in the office with my colleagues – we like a morning hug,” the meteorologist remarked.

Naga then made a quip as she told the forecast presenter: “The weather department sounds so much nicer than ours.”

Jon then chimed in as he told viewers in a sarcastic tone: “See how much we love hugging,” demonstrating the two-metre gap between him and his co-host.

However, he added: “We normally would hug one another if we haven’t seen each other in a couple of weeks.”

The pair have continued to present the news show during the pandemic alongside a host of their colleagues.

Speaking about how the broadcasters response to reporting on the global health crisis, Naga said: “I think it’s shown just how valuable a resource the BBC is.”

The journalist referred to the number of viewers tuning in to for the latest updates, adding: “We’ve seen that in our viewing figures.

“We’ve seen it on Breakfast, but all news outlets would have seen a spike because people are more engaged.

“This is the most important thing that’s happened to us, not for a generation, but probably for a century,” she told the Guardian.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
