BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty joins Charlie Stayt on the sofas from Thursday to Saturday, where she has become a popular fixture over the years. Earlier this year, Naga could be heard covering for Emma Barnett on her Radio 5 Live mid-morning show, which was proved popular with listeners. Today, it was confirmed Naga will be taking the reins of the mid-morning slot on a permanent basis, becoming the new presenter of a show on the station.

Naga made a number of guest appearances on the station during the summer.

And it seems her stint proved a hit with those tuning in as it was announced this morning she had been given a new show of her own.

She will be on-hand to present the mid-morning slot between Monday and Wednesday, remaining in her BBC Breakfast role for the rest of the week.

Naga said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the 5 Live team.

“I have always wanted to work more on radio and after such an enjoyable experience presenting on the station recently, I jumped at this opportunity.

“5 Live has one of the most passionate, engaged audiences in radio. The prospect of talking to those listeners every week really excites me.”

And the star confirmed when her new show would begin, adding: “I can’t wait to get stuck into the role from January.”

Heidi Dawson, Controller of BBC Radio 5 Live, said: “Naga is a brilliant broadcaster and a fearless journalist, making her the perfect fit for our mid-morning programme.”
