Money Heist (originally known as La Casa de Papel) follows a gang of thieves brought together under the guidance of El Professor (played by Álvaro Morte) to carry out a heist. Is Berlin really dead in La Casa de Papel?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Money Heist season three
Fans were excited that Berlin would be coming for season three of Money Heist after his reveal was unveiled at the end of the trailer.
Berlin, or Andrés de Fonollosa, was El Professor’s brother in the show and is one of the criminal masterminds behind the original heist.
Viewers were devastated when the jewel thief was shot dead by police as he was buying time for his team to escape from the Spanish Mint in series two.
Therefore, it was a big shock when Berlin appeared in Florence at the end of the trailer for series three.
Some fans were convinced that this could mean that Berlin was wearing a bullet proof vest when he was shot and he would still be alive and well.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO NAIROBI?
However, when the show was finally released on Netflix, it became clear that Berlin is only returning in flashbacks.
His death was confirmed in episode two, when El Professor goes to meet Palermo (Rodrigo de la Serna), who is devastated at Berlin’s death.
Palermo tells El Professor: “I wouldn’t have let him die and you did.”
The pair share in their grief and eventually reconcile, bringing Palermo in as one of the major characters in series three.
Despite not being alive in part three of La Casa de Papel, Berlin plays as crucial role as one of the masterminds behind the plan to break into the vault of the Bank of Spain.
WILL THERE BE A PART 4 OF LA CASA DE PAPEL?
Fans of his character are also able to see him through flashbacks during the whole series as the plan is slowly unravelled.
Another one of the biggest reveals about Berlin’s character however was that he was actually dying before the first heist ever took place.
In episode three, he says to his brother: “I’ve been diagnosed with mum’s illness,” before revealing that he only has three years to live.
When El Professor tells him they should call the heist off and seek treatment, he says: “I enjoy stealing so much more.”
WHO IS IN THE CAST OF MONEY HEIST PART 3?
Season three of the heist drama ended on a dramatic cliffhanger with Nairobi’s (Alba Flores) life left hanging in the balance.
Luckily, the fourth series of Money Heist has been confirmed by series creator Álex Pina with rumours that is has begun filming already.
Berlin also could still be appearing in the fourth series as he revealed in an interview with Spanish publication Infobae.
He said: “We can officially say that we are doing a fourth [series], that is, we are in continuity, and that things are still happening.”
Express.co.uk will update this article as soon as any more information is revealed about Berlin’s fate.
