Meghan Markle: Suits co-star on why it was ‘fortunate’ Duchess fell for Prince Harry
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was already bordering on a household name before she was in any way associated with the Royal Family. As a regular cast member on the USA Network show Suits, Meghan had already experienced working with press on a large scale. Her character, Rachel Zane, made quite an impact on the show, and the arrival of her father, Robert Zane (played by Wendell Pierce) fleshed out her character even further.
While Suits was certainly an incredibly popular show, Meghan’s marriage to Prince Harry certainly bolstered its notoriety.
Express.co.uk recently spoke to Wendell Pierce about the final season of Suits, and how Meghan influenced the show.
Wendell agreed Suits acted as a petri dish for talent, as actors from the show came and went into even larger roles.
On why this is, Wendell mused: “It was the chemistry of the writers, and producers, and the actors coming together and creating something.

“Everyone, you know, starts out trying to create something that’s going to be impactful – and then it’s been fortunate that we had this response.”
Chuckling, he went on to add: “And it’s fortunate that Meghan fell in love with a prince, and he fell in love with her, and brought more attention to it. Worldwide attention.”
Wendell also explained that his latest TV outing Jack Ryan season two is similar.
“It came out to 140 countries all in one day,” he said of the John Krasinski-lead show.
“And that worldwide appeal has propelled it forward, and it’s the same thing with Meghan.
“Meghan brought so much attention to the show for those who weren’t watching it already.
“So it has propelled it even further along, had loyal fans… You know you can look at the nine seasons – that’s a rarity in our business!”
Smiling through the conversation, he added: “And now we have something we can look back on fondly.”

He told the Hollywood Reporter: “I wrote a spec piece that I originally intended to be a half-hour Entourage-type based on my experiences working on Wall Street. But as I wrote it, I started realising it wants to be an hour-long show.”
Back in 2016 he told Collider: “I worked for a guy named Harvey, I had a good memory, and I had a dalliance with marijuana.
“A lot of the basis for the show is from that. But I found that very unsatisfying, as a career, and ended up leaving.”
