Meet the cast of Grantchester series 5 from Robson Green to Lauren Carse
ITV's detective crime drama Grantchester is back on our screens TOMORROW (January 10) at 9pm.
The show will begin its fifth season and for fans who are dying to know who they will be seeing on their screens, we have all the information you need right here.
Tom Brittney as Will Davenport
Reverend Will Davenport is a celibate vicar who rides motorcycles and also took over from James Norton’s Sidney Chambers in series 4 as the Grantchester's new man of the cloth.
However, in the new series Will's self-imposed vow to remain celibate will be tested when he meets one of Geordie's friends, a journalist called Ellie Harding.
29-year-old Tom Brittney revealed that the new series will see his friendship with Geordie Keating put to the test.
“At the beginning it has been a year [since the events of the previous season], we’re better friends than ever in real life and on-screen but it doesn’t last long, our friendship starts to be sort of slightly torn apart by a new guy who comes in".
Robson Green as Geordie Keating
Robson plays policeman Geordie Keating.
In previous seasons we saw his marriage to Cathy was on the rocks following his affair with a colleague, but now they are heading in the right direction.
Asked about his character, Robson Green told RadioTimes.com: “Geordie just doesn’t trust anyone. This whole notion of you know, everybody is settled, everybody is in a good place, but for Geordie there’s no such thing. Nothing good ever lasts.
And something bad will inevitably happen. And because it’s a drama right, it does.”
Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating
Kacey stars as Cathy Keating, Geordie’s wife who last season found new independence and is now working in a department store.
She forgave Geordie for cheating on her but their relationship could become strained once again.
In series 5 the policeman enlists the help of his mother-in-law around the house in season 5 and Cathy is not happy about it.
Cathy once starred as Little Mo in EastEnders and played the gentle-natured Miss Gullet in the revamp of popular 90’s children’s show, The Worst Witch.
Tessa Peake-Jones plays Mrs Chapman
Tessa Peake -Jones stars as Mrs Chapman.
She is Rev Will Davenport's dedicated housekeeper now that Sidney Chambers (James Norton) has left for America.
She is formerly Mrs Maguire after she married again in series 3.
The 62-year-old featured in Only Fools and Horses as Raquel Turner.
She has also starred as Sue Bond in Doctors, Sheila in Unforgotten and Imelda Cousins in Holby City.
Al Weaver as Leonard Finch
Al Weaver portrays the character of closeted gay parish priest Leonard Finch.
The beginning of series 5 will see him return to the village with his partner after a holiday in Morocco.
However he tells to Mrs Chapman that he had only been to visit Bognor Regis.
Weaver has starred in programs such as Colette, Peterloo, and The Hollow Crown, and recently played James Edwards in the Mike Bartlett series Press.
Lauren Carse plays Ellie Harding
Lauren Carse will make her debut on the show as a journalist and friend of Geordie’s.
Her coverage of some murders have committed during series 5 have provoked Will, who she starts to become attracted to.
Speaking to RadioTimes.com, Brittney said that his character Will didn’t agree with Ellie “morally,” but that the attraction is there from the beginning.
“Me and Ellie are going to be the Ross and Rachel of Grantchester… I want all Grantchester to be related to Friends, in some way!”
Jemma Redgrave as Amelia Davenport
Jemma Redgrave plays the shy mother of Will, Amelia Davenport.
Her overbearing husband committed suicide in season four after Will and Geordie discovered that he had killed a man.
She is now trying to move forward on her own and discover who she really is, with the hope of meeting meeting somebody new.
