Maria Shriver Is Mindful That Katherine Schwarzenegger's Engagement Is Her Daughter's Moment
Maria Shriver is over the moon that her daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger will soon be walking down the aisle, but doesn’t want to speak publicly on it just yet.
The 63-year-old author spoke to PEOPLE exclusively while promoting her new podcast Meaningful Conversations with Maria Shriver and revealed why she wouldn’t talk about her 29-year-old daughter’s engagement to Chris Pratt.
“I am not going to talk about it because it isn’t even like eight hours old, so I’m just trying to let them direct,” she said. “It isn’t about me. So I’m going to follow their lead.”
Shriver has four children with ex-husband Arnold Schwarzenegger including daughter Christina, 27, and sons Patrick, 25, and Christopher, 21.
While the NBC News correspondent wouldn’t say more, she did comment on her daughter’s and Pratt’s Instagram posts in which they announced the happy news.
“Congratulations to two loving kind caring thoughtful Spiritual people,” Shriver wrote in the comments of Pratt’s Instagram. “We are so happy for you you are blessed as is everyone who knows you yes let’s go.”
On Schwarzenegger’s Instagram, the proud mother commented, “Love you enjoy this next chapter make it fun you are so loved.”
Her father, Arnold, also commented, writing, “Congratulations to both of you! I love you!”
Pratt, 39, announced their engagement early Monday morning in an Instagram post in which he and Schwarzenegger cuddled up with her engagement ring front and center.
“Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go! ??♥️,” he captioned the photo.
The Avengers: Infinity War actor kept things traditional by asking Shriver and Arnold for their daughter’s hand in marriage, a source previously told PEOPLE.
“He asked for Maria and Arnold ’s blessing and was very traditional about things,” the source said.

The two bonded over their Christian faith early on and a different source told PEOPLE in this week’s issue that it will be front and center at their wedding.
“They’re going to want a religious wedding,” the source said. “I know that Chris does, and I assume that she does, too. God is going to be a part of this marriage.”
Another insider close to Schwarzenegger added the two likely won’t wait long before tying the knot.
“They are one of those rare couples that you root for from the beginning. It won’t be a long engagement — Katherine has already talked about having a summer 2019 wedding.”
