Maisie Smith hit with Strictly final setback as HRVY becomes new favourite to win
Strictly: Maisie Smith jokes about her ’struggle’ in training
Maisie Smith has dominated the dance floor with performances some professionals would dream of achieving and tonight, she will battle it out for the Glitterball Trophy. The EastEnders star and Gorka Marquez have had to prove to Strictly Come Dancing fans and the judges why they deserve to have a place in the competition after she took part in last year’s Christmas special and won. Nevertheless, while she has won over the three experts raising the score paddles, it seems Maisie has not got the backing of the bookmakers. In a shocking turn of events, HRVY is in the lead to win the 2020 series, not Maisie.
With just a few hours to go, it is a two-horse race for the Strictly crown.
Fan-favourite Bill Bailey is odds-on to be named the winner as his odds sit at 8/11.
As for who will narrowly miss out, HRVY has proved his ability but hasn’t won over all the viewers.
His odds sit at 7/4, while Maisie’s are 6/1.
According to Ladbrokes, Jamie Laing is the outsider, as his chances of being the 2020 champ sit at 50/1.

“There’s 34 years between them but it’s Bill who heads the betting heading into the Strictly final, with HRVY just behind as things stand,” a spokesman said.
Each finalist will perform three routines tonight; a judges choice, couple choice and show dance.
Maisie and Gorka are taking on her debut dance – the Samba – which she scored 24 points for in the very first week of the show.
Fans of Strictly have criticised the judges for choosing this Latin number as it is known for being notoriously difficult.
Her couple’s choice is the Quickstep which she performed back in week six and scored her first 10s for.
But can she impress Craig Revel Horwood to pick up his paddle and make it a perfect score?
As for HRVY, his first of three dances is the Jive which he also performed in week one back in October.
This will be followed by an American Smooth which also saw him score 29 points from the experts.
Bill’s Quickstep from week two was chosen by the judges, while he and Oti have opted for their week four Street/Commercial routine.
Jamie, on the other hand, is dancing the Charleston for the second time as his judges choice.

His favourite dance, however, is the Street/Commercial routine which gave him his highest score of 29 points.
Speaking about the possibility of winning the show, Maisie said: “It would be mad. It would be incredible.
“Me and my family have been fans of this show since I was a baby, to bring the Glitterball home to my family, it would mean a lot because I know how proud they would be of me.
“I would love to win it for you [Gorka] as well because we work super, super hard,” she added.
Gorka also told Express.co.uk: “I hope we win it so I can thank you for all the work you’ve done, you’ve been working us every day, putting in so many hours and working with a smile even on the dance floor even when you have criticism, you have a smile and keep pushing yourself.
“It would be the best end, the best Christmas present for both of us.”
Jamie also thought about what it would feel like to raise the iconic Glitterball Trophy in the air.
“It would be the best Christmas I could give Karen and myself and friends and family and people supporting me, It would just be wicked,” he explained.
As for Bill and Oti – this would be the second year in a row the professional dancer would’ve been crowned should the public choose her and Bill as this year’s winner.
The comedian said: “We’ve just been focussing on the dances and trying to get them right but sometimes you allow yourself a moment to imagine what it would be like and of course it would be wonderful.
“It would be an amazing way to cap off this extraordinary experience for me and of course for Oti”
And finally, HRVY thought about the moment and revealed: “It’s my nan and granddad’s 60th diamond anniversary [tonight]!
“They watch every single Strictly. They’ve never missed a show, since the beginning. So I said to my Nan, ‘genuinely if I win and I get a Glitterball, you can put it in your house on the fireplace’.
“I’d take a picture of me next to it and have that in my house, but I honestly would give the Glitterball to my nan,” he added.
Strictly Come Dancing concludes tonight on BBC One.
