Macaulay Culkin recreates Home Alone scenes after nearly 30 years

The 38-year-old star returned to Kevin McCallister's home in a new advert for Google Assistant.

In the minute-long clip, Macaulay pays homage to the infamous moment his eight-year-old character put on aftershave, jumped on his parents' bed, and told the pizza delivery boy to "keep the change, ya filthy animal".

However, times have changed – and grown up Macaulay finds that jumping on the bed actually hurts his back, and he doesn't need to pay the delivery boy because he'd already settled the bill online.

The video even pays tribute to the terrifying furnace that haunted Kevin in the original 1990 film – with Macaulay simply asking Google to lower the temperature in the house as he decorates a Christmas tree.

To add to the nostalgia, the advert is soundtracked by two of the most prominent songs from the film, White Christmas by The Drifters, and Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee.

The advert ends with Macaulay using Google's technological skills to secure the house from the film's original villains – the Wet Bandits.

As the burglars' van drives away from the home, the voice of Joe Pesci, who played Harry, says: "Better get out of here before somebody sees us."

Speaking in a behind-the-scenes video for the ad, Macaulay said: "It was interesting going back and doing a lot of this stuff.

"They did a very good job on the set decoration and the props and all the shots were really spot-on."

Earlier this month, Macaulay delighted fans when he admitted that he watches the Christmas film with girlfriends – and even mutters along to his lines.

In a chat with US host Jimmy Fallon the former child star said: "It's like a thing, like you have a new girlfriend and you're flipping through the channels and there's Home Alone, and she's like, 'Huh? You wanna watch it?'"

The actor added: "You want to watch Home Alone with Macaulay Culkin, don't you? And I have indulged that.

"Most of the time I'm just muttering my lines under my breath. 'Keep the change, ya filthy animal.'

"Whatever gets her motor running, I guess."
