Luke’s Lightsaber ‘Lives’ in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

During Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019, Daisy Ridley revealed that Luke’s lightsaber “lives” in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and director J.J. Abrams alludes to some new force powers Rey might use in the movie.

Moderator Stephen Colbert asks Ridley, “Rey has crazy-strong force powers now, but her lightsaber’s in pieces. Is she rebuilding that lightsaber, or are we in a start-from-scratch situation here?”

Ridley responds, “My answer is not the end of the story… but the lightsaber that Rey inherited from Luke lives.” This could suggest she either rebuilds the broken saber, or as many fans have theorized, retrofits it to her own staff.

Colbert then asked Ridley if Rey shows any new force powers in Episode IX, a-la Luke’s force projection in Episode VIII. Ridley defers the question to Abrams, who says “There are some extraordinary things that the character and Daisy did in this movie… there are some other things, and you’ll see them soon.”
