Luke Perry’s Riverdale co-star Molly Ringwald leads tributes to star following his death aged 52

The 90210 actor died on Monday after suffering a massive stroke on Wednesday and never recovering.


Taking to Twitter following the news, Molly tweeted saying: "My heart is broken.

"I will miss you so much Luke Perry. Sending all my love to your family."

John Barrowman swiftly followed and wrote alongside a picture of him: “So sad. Luke Perry #beverlyhills90210 #riverdale I met him when I was 19 and when we re-met in our 40’s both promoting our #CW roles and shows.

“I didn’t think he would remember our crazy NYC week after his astronomic success, but he did. A nineties icon will be missed. Love and thoughts to his family during this difficult time. #riplukeperry.”

Screenwriter Joss Whedon was also among those paying tribute.


He tweeted: "The first time I met Luke Perry we talked about what kind of movie we wanted "Buffy" to be.

"I asked if he'd ever seen "Near Dark" and he gave me a look of HOW DARE YOU SIR and I knew we'd get along. Funny, committed, and always gracious.

"He shouldn't be gone."

Frozen actor Josh Gad said: "Heartbreaking. Absolutely heartbreaking. RIP #LukePerry."

Nancy Sinatra tweeted: "Oh, dear, I'm so sorry. Gone way too soon. Godspeed Luke Perry."

US actor Seth Green said he was "crushed".

"Luke Perry was truly a great guy," he said.

"Warm, kind, generous and hard working. We met very young, I witnessed the grace with which he became a pop icon & parent.

"He's been an awesome example of how to stay decent in a swirl of crazy.

"Love to his family."

Actress Sarah Douglas said the Beverly Hills, 90210 star was "such a teenage heartthrob".


The nineties hearthrob passed away this morning at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank surrounded by his family – including Jack and Sophie and fiance Wendy Madison Bauer.

His rep said: "Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke.

"The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning.

"No further details will be released at this time."
