The fifth season of Lucifer saw Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) and Chloe Decker (Lauren German) finally stop playing around and make their long-awaited relationship official.

Unfortunately, the adorable duo ran into a hitch in the midseason finale which could throw their romance into turmoil.

Before the devil could work out the courage to use the dreaded ‘L word’, their lovable exchange was interrupted by the arrival of Lucifer’s devious twin Michael, and their almighty father, God (Dennis Haysbert).

With a new war amongst the celestials threatening to end life on Earth as we know it, ‘Deckerstar’ could be torn apart once again when the current season continues.

As the show’s ever-growing audience waits for the fan favourite pair to finally reunite, a recent debate has caused a stir in the Lucifer fanbase.

A new theory from CBR.com has made a controversial statement by suggesting, when it comes to crime-solving, Lucifer is better off leaving Chloe at home.

Looking through the series, CBR asserted Lucifer is a far better detective when paired up with plucky forensic expert, Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia).

Ella was introduced in season two as a transfer from Detroit with a shady past and can-do attitude, and instantly became one of Lucifer’s most beloved characters.

Despite her faith, Ella is still none the wiser when it comes to Lucifer’s true identity as the devil, and assumes he’s simply some sort of method actor.

Moreover, their friendship has grown stronger over the years, and Lucifer’s mojo and refined detective skills have helped the CSI out of a number of tight spots.

As CBS explained: “Ella has, on more than one occasion, proven to be an incredibly effective partner for Lucifer. When the woman who posed as his wife for a time went missing in Las Vegas, Ella helped Lucifer solve the case.

“She also helped Lucifer develop an antidote when Chloe was poisoned. More recently, Ella worked with Lucifer to hunt a serial killer down.”

While fans ate up every second of Deckerstar’s casework, their crime scene analysis all too frequently came to a standstill to make way for their giggly flirting.

Lucifer and Ella aren’t likely to take their relationship to another level anytime soon, but this article hoped the duo would join forces on more missions in the episodes ahead.

They argued: “When Lucifer teams up with Ella, they don’t have that problem. They just get the job done, and they do it well. On top of that, they are a much more fun duo.”

However, there is still a chance the pair could see each other as a romantic prospect if Lucifer and Chloe’s relationship is suddenly off the cards.

Despite admitting a complete lack of attraction to the devil-in-disguise, Ella has confessed she’s on the hunt for a new type of partner after her notorious track record of dating a string of bad boys.

Meanwhile, although Lucifer sees his friendship with Ella as strictly platonic, he did admit she cleaned up extremely well during their caper in Las Vegas.

With a season and a half of Lucifer left to go, there’s still plenty of time for the series to rock the boat with some new character pairings before the climactic finale.
