The fifth season of Lucifer introduced the fallen angel’s most malevolent foe yet in the form of his evil twin brother, Michael (played by Tom Ellis).

After an epic showdown between the twin brothers, Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) and Amenadiel (DB Woodside), their kung-fu squabble is interrupted by the stunning arrival of God (Dennis Haysbert).

Now the walls between heaven, hell and the mortal plane are becoming increasingly fragile, the clock could be ticking on Lucifer’s true identity remaining secret.

In a shocking twist, Lucifer’s rival in the LAPD, Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro) saw his first glimpse of the devil’s real face thanks to a cunning piece of sabotage from Michael.

A revealing clue from Ella star Aimee Garcia has also teased the final shoe could finally drop for the forensic analyst, who has been denying Lucifer’s devilish claims from the beginning.

Although Ella is definitely one of the most faithful characters on the show, she refuses to believe Lucifer is the real devil and instead insists he has simply been method acting.

As Garcia aptly put it to Den of Geek: “Ella is the dumbest smartest character on the show.

“She can tell you how someone died just based on like a piece of hair left at the crime scene, but she thinks that the Devil is just an actor who can’t book a gig and needs a hug.”

Teasing some potential upcoming scenes, the star added: “She would probably ask Lucifer a bunch of questions if she ever found out.”

As pretty much the only practicing Christian in the cast, Ella would certainly have some pressing questions about the existence of heaven and hell if she found out.

It’s very likely Ella will eventually find out the truth, but it’s unclear whether Ella’s discovery will take place in the second part of season five.

Some fans are concerned Lucifer’s entire roster of mortal friends won’t be in on the secret until midway through the sixth season.

However, some intriguing comments from Aimee Garcia have hinted towards Ella discovering the truth sooner rather than later.

Garcia continued: “I’m torn, because I love that she doesn’t know. I don’t want to take away that fun, clueless banter, because no one else has it.

“Every other character knows that there’s angels and demons and devils, so it keeps [Ella] relatable, but I hope by the end of the series Ella gets the celestial memo.”

While Lucifer’s dynamic with his naive friend in the LAPD are always a highlight of each episode, viewers are hopeful the clueless CSI won’t be kept in the dark for much longer.

Meanwhile, production on the fifth season’s finale is still on hold amid the coronavirus pandemic, but Garcia confirmed Netflix subscribers will see the story continue soon.

She added: Hopefully, we start production in the fall and I know it’s going to be very buttoned up and very safe.

“I think we’ll see how this whole pandemic changes the storytelling, but we’re scheduled to go into production quite soon.”

Film and television production is beginning to get up and running again in Los Angeles, so ‘Lucifans’ have their fingers crossed they won’t be waiting for much longer.
