Loose Women boycott Meghan and Harry's book: 'They abandoned us'
Loose Women’s Saira Khan is boycotting Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s book as she believes the couple have ‘abandoned’ the British public.
The presenter expressed on today’s programme that she’s not interested in buying a copy of Finding Freedom, the biography which proposes to tell the accurate version of Harry and Meghan’s life as modern royals.
‘When they got married, for me it was the first mixed marriage in the royal family, and I felt there was lots of hope and excitement, and then it got dark very quickly,’ Saira began.
‘That’s what really broke my heart and I felt they really abandoned the British people, so I’m not actually going to be very interested in what they’re doing.’
She added: ‘I do believe anybody in the public eye is up for scrutiny, not always for the right reasons or whatever.
‘They’ve left us, they’ve left the family, and for me, they’ve left this country and I’m not interested.’
Co-host Jane Moore added that she’d only read it if it was published for free in a paper.
‘They’ve pushed back against the British public so much,’ she said. ‘They’ve done that, “We don’t want you to do this. We only want to let you see our child when it suits us even though we’re part of this royal family.”‘
‘We’re still not going to get the real stories, are we?’ added Linda Robson.
Ruth Langsford, on the other hand, admitted she’s curious about the couple and will give the biography a read.
The Sussexes, who have moved to Los Angeles after stepping down as working royals, have been dogged by negative stories from some sections of the media, which has led to the couple refusing to engage with a number of British tabloids.
Last autumn Harry issued a statement accusing elements of the press of bullying his wife.
Scobie and Durand, whose book Finding Freedom is published this summer, said: ‘The aim of this book is to portray the real Harry and Meghan, a couple who continue to inspire many around the world through their humanitarian and charitable work but are often inaccurately portrayed.
‘Our mission has been motivated by a desire to tell an accurate version of their journey and finally present the truth of misreported stories that have become gospel simply because of the amount of times they have been repeated.
‘It is thanks to our sources that we have been able to share the definitive story of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.’
The book has the full title Finding Freedom: Harry And Meghan And The Making of A Modern Royal Family, and will be published in August by Dey Street Books.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
