Liar season 2: Did Oliver kill Andrew to help frame Laura for murder?

Liar was last on our screens back in 2017 when fans found out Andrew Earlham (played by Ioan Gruffudd) was a serial rapist, filming the sexual assaults and hiding the tapes in his mother’s shed. An arrest warrant was issued but his body was found in the Kent marshes just a few weeks later. So now the big question this season is who murdered Andrew?

Everything started off nicely in series one as widower Andrew went on a first date with newly single teacher Laura Nielson (Joanna Froggett).

The pair seemed to get on really well – until the following when Laura woke up alone and was convinced he had raped her.

There were serious questions over who was telling the truth but fans found out he had actually drugged Laura and raped her while she was unconscious.

And it wasn’t the first time he had attacked a woman, leading to him being wanted by the police.

But when his body showed up a few weeks later in the marshes, Laura became the number one suspect.

Did Oliver kill Andrew to help frame Laura for murder in Liar season 2?

Warning: This article contains spoilers from Liar season 2, episode 1.

At the end of last night’s (Monday, March 2) episode, Laura was arrested for the murder of Andrew after DI Renton (Katherine Kelly) found his car keys in her flat.

Laura pointed out she wouldn’t be so stupid as to keep crucial evidence in her home if she did do it but despite this being a valid point, she was taken away by officers on suspicion of murdering the serial rapist.

But this could mean someone is trying to frame Laura for his murder.

So could it have been Andrew with a little help from an old friend?

In the first series, Laura ruined Andrew’s entire life after exposing his evil secret to the world, including his beloved son Luke (Jamie Flatters).

But as he had previously admitted, he “has to win, no matter what”.

With an arrest warrant hanging around his neck and Andrew desperate to get his revenge, he could have believed the only way out was to stage his own murder and make everyone believe it was Laura.

Oliver Graham (Sam Spruell) who has a past with Andrew, suddenly appeared in the town and his reasons for sticking around remain unclear.

In a flashback scene, it showed Oliver helping Andrew get rid of vital evidence to do with a rape he had committed while he was locked up in prison.

To convince his “friend” into helping, Andrew mysteriously tells him: “I’ve helped you out before, haven’t I?”

So Andrew was obviously blackmailing Oliver for years and could have done it again.

With help from his old friend, Andrew could have staged evidence to make it seem as if all the evidence was pointing at Laura for his murder when in fact it was Oliver who planted the car keys as well as other clues the police are yet to find.

The serial rapist had disappeared for several weeks so he would have had plenty of time to work out the plan and then when the time was right, got Oliver to kill him in a bid to seal Laura’s fate.

Before being killed, Andrew vented to Oliver about his desire for revenge.

He said: “It’s not right. That b***h [Laura] walking around while I have to leave my son.

“If she thinks she can do this and get away with it, she’s wrong.”

In the previous series, he also hinted to Laura herself that this wasn’t going to end well for her.

He told her: “When bad things happen, they don’t go away.

“They’re always there, under the surface, like they’re just waiting for you.”

Liar season 2 continues next Monday, March 9, at 9pm on ITV.
