Kay Burley apologises for breaking tier two rules while celebrating birthday

Sky News broadcaster Kay Burley has apologised for ‘inadvertently’ breaking coronavirus tier two restrictions while out celebrating her 60th birthday at the weekend.
The journalist told her Twitter followers that she had spent Saturday night at a ‘Covid-compliant restaurant’ in London, before flouting the rules by using a toilet in another venue while waiting for a taxi home.
Taking to social media on Monday night, the reporter said she was ’embarrassed’ for her ‘error in judgement’ and that she could only apologise for her behaviour.
‘I want to apologise to you all for an error of judgment,’ she penned.
‘On Saturday night I was enjoying my 60th birthday at a Covid-compliant restaurant. I am embarrassed to say that later in the evening I inadvertently broke the rules.’
‘I had been waiting for a taxi at 11pm to get home. Desperate for the loo I briefly popped into another restaurant to spend a penny. I can only apologise,’ she added.
Under Tier 2 restrictions, mixed households are not allowed to gather indoors unless a one-person household forms a support bubble with another.
Kay did not confirm where she went for dinner, or who she went with.
However, according to the website Guido Fawkes, a ‘star-studded group of ten’ which included Sky’s Beth Rigby, Inzamam Rashid and Sam Washington all gathered together to celebrate her 60th celebration.
