Katie Price could be forced to pick up litter and sort dirty clothes as part of community service if she's convicted of drink driving

The 40-year-old was charged with drink-driving after crashing her pink Range Rover in London following a five-day bender in October.

If she is guilty, other tasks she may be asked to do include painting projects and unpaid Community Service.

Defendants carry out work that includes sorting through bags of clothes donated by the public to charity shops like Age UK, Cancer Research or the Samaritans or keeping open spaces like parks clean and tidy.

Katie spends tens of thousands of pounds a year on designer clobber.

But offenders set to work sorting clothes are asked to discard items unsuitable for sale and retain the quality clothes – that means sifting through bin bags of donated garments which are often filthy.

One charity shop worker revealed: “It is no fun, let me tell you. For every half decent pair of Armani jeans or Ted Baker jacket there’s piles of smelly old trousers, stained shirts and even unwashed socks.

“People think they are doing us a favour but sometimes you need a peg on your nose. People just stick soiled clothes in a black bag and think they’ve got a social conscience.”

Katie was charged by postal requisition last week and is now due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Monday, 7 January.

The mother-of-five was arrested in the earlier hours of the morning two months ago after turning up uninvited to her on-off boyfriend Kris Boyson's 30th birthday party.

She also faces an automatic ban from driving if guilty of driving with excess alcohol.

Katie allegedly crashed her £75,000 pink Range Rover into a VW Golf and a hedge on a gated estate in Woolwich at 2am, damaging the vehicle and leaving debris spread across the road.

Witnesses claimed they saw a woman “gesticulating wildly” before the car ploughed into a bush.

After her arrest, Katie spent 13 hours in a cell at Plumstead police station before being released under investigation.

It is understood Katie initially claimed she was not behind the wheel of the car at the time of the crash.

However, police believe they have established proof that Katie was driving over the limit and have decided to charge her.
