Jane The Virgin: Does Michael die in Jane the Virgin? When does he die?
Michael Cordero Jr (played by Brett Dier) suffered a whole load of drama in Jane the Virgin. As The CW and Netflix series went on, fans were left wondering whether the character was alive or dead across entire seasons. The show then pulled a huge twist relating to Michael’s death in season five.
Does Michael die in Jane the Virgin?
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Jane the Virgin season 2-5
In season three, it seems as if Michael, the love of Jane Villanueva’s (Gina Rodriguez) life, died.
This came as he got shot after marrying Jane in the season two finale.
Though it initially seemed as if he had survived, in season three he later died as a result of complications from the wound.
After a season of being ostensibly ‘dead’, it was revealed at the end of Jane the Virgin season four that he was actually alive.
How he had managed to survive was then revealed in the most recent series, streaming now on Netflix.
In season five, it was revealed that Rose (Bridget Regan) had faked his death and given him electroshock therapy that had brought on amnesia.
With no memory of his former life, he became Jason, leading to weeks of Jane trying to jog his memory about his former life.
However, he did eventually get his memories back in a very Jane the Virgin-style way.
After Jane and “Jason” decide to part ways with each other when they couldn’t rekindle their spark, she closes the door on him.
This causes some masonry to fall on Michael, leading all his memories to come flooding back.
Though Jane ends up marrying Rafael Solano (Justin Baldwin), Michael/Jason gets his own happy ending after getting engaged to a cowgirl.
According to Vanity Fair, Dier was told about six months after his character died that he would be coming back.
He told the magazine: “People would come up to me all the time and say, ‘Oh my God, I cried so much when you died,’” he recalled, “And I couldn’t say anything!”
Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman told E! News: “We were only going to bring him back for this final telenovela trope that we’ve sort of kept in our pocket for this.”
She explained to TVLine that she decided on amnesia as a plot point because: “Amnesia came from that telenovela trope that we’ve been saving.
“We kind of foreshadowed [it] a little bit when Michael got shot and woke up and said, ‘Who are you?’ And then he said, ‘I’m just kidding.’”
