I’m A Celebrity’s ‘terrifying’ first task is more dangerous than ever
Filming has begun for the launch episode of I’m A Celebrity – with the stars being divided into pairs.
The ten contestants – now seemingly five duos working together – were spotted taking off in two helicopters at Surfers Paradise on Gold Coast and later landing in a field close to the Versace Hotel.
Some of them then headed to the 343 feet high Focus building to take part in a challenge which will see them walk along tiny planks.
The 10 contestants have been split into pairs and were wearing different coloured clothing.
Ian Wright and Jacqueline Jossa wore green, Kate Garraway and Andrew Maxwell were in blue, James Haskell and Caitlyn Jenner in red, Roman Kemp and Myles Stephenson have purple clothing and Adele Roberts and Nadine Coyle wore yellow.
Earlier in the day Ant and Dec were seen arriving on a speedboat for a swimming race amongst some of the contestants also in Surfers’ Paradise.
The Geordie hosts then rejoined some of the contestants at the top of the Focus tower.
Speaking to Mirror Online earlier this week, series producer Olly Nash previewed the incredible opening episode by saying: "This is I’m A Celebrity and the contestants are going to have to be braver than ever.
"The walk in itself will see us return to the plank at the Focus building. It’s the biggest and most horrendous, wobbliest thing. We tested it earlier in August and we made it deliberately more wobbly.
"They will be playing with another celebrity, so the more they wobble, the more you wobble. You are totally dependent on someone else. It’s 343 ft up, four metres out, then three metres down, then a metre out again.
"You have to go down a ladder. We’ve tested it and during the runs, getting to the end then turning around is absolutely horrendous. The worst part of it is you have to go a metre out at the bottom and effectively stand on one foot to press the switch. You’re balancing on one foot.
"It’s absolutely terrifying. I find it hard just looking over the edge. It’s totally down to how brave you are. They play in twos, in pairs.
"They will all end up in camp, luxury for us is living in the main camp and getting a bed and food and a fire. The other camp is on the floor eating rice and beans.
"It’ll be two camps. It’s survival of the bravest. The bravest will win out. You’ve got to hold your nerve."
* I’m A Celebrity starts at 9pm on Sunday night on ITV.
