Huw Edwards sends The One Show fans into meltdown with new look ‘What’s going on?’

The One Show has had a revolving host of presenters joining Alex Jones on the green sofas in the BBC studio since Matt Baker departed earlier this year. Tonight, to mark VE Day, she was accompanied by BBC News Anchor Huw Edwards for the hour long instalment. But those watching at home couldn’t help but notice a change to Huw’s appearance. 

“Hello and welcome to The One Show with me Alex Jones and for tonight’s special hour-long programme to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, it’s Huw Edwards,” Alex introduced. 

“It’s a big weird Alex, you know, no desk, no suit, no tie,” Huw replied. “That’ll have to come on later for ten [o’clock news], so I’m chilling for a bit with you okay?” 

“Well it’s a real treat for us, we’re thrilled to have you,” Alex said. 

“It’s a thrill for me as well!” The journalist commented.

Alex then turned to his outfit and remarked: “No one’s seen you in a cardigan before!” 

“Yes, it’s a bit ‘Dad’ isn’t it?” Huw stated but Alex hit back: “No, I love it. It’s very nice.”

And those at home noticed his new attire, taking to Twitter to comment, one said: “@huwbbc in a #cardigan. The lockdown keeps on giving! #TheOneShow.” 

“Huw in a cardigan is just the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. #theoneshow #lostitinlockdown (sic),” another wrote. 

Someone else commented: “@BBCTheOneShow love seeing Huw in informal attire! Not “a bit Dad” at all!” 

“The double whammy of not knowing what day it is then turning on #TheOneShow to see Huw Edwards co-hosting – what’s going on?! @huwbbc,” a fan remarked. 

“HUW EDWARDS IS PRESENTING ON THE ONE SHOW I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO THINK #TheOneShow,” one viewer said.

Huw’s cardigan was not the only thing popular with viewers as some suggested he take over as the other presenter of The One Show. 

“@BBCTheOneShow I think you should make @huwbbc your new host – he’s brilliant – love him,” one said.

Another remarked: “Loving @huwbbc on the #TheOneShow please may he be a regular thing #huwedwards.” 

“I’ve gotta say I’m loving Huw Edwards doing something other than news #TheOneShow,” a third added.

Matt Baker left in March after nine years as the main presenter. 

The BBC said they were not replacing him with one person, instead, a host of famous faces popular with viewers would join Alex on a rota basis. 

This week, Gethin Jones sat alongside her. 

The One Show airs weekday evenings at 7pm on BBC One.
