Hollyoaks star reveals 'staggering' response as Brendan Brady appears on-screen

Hollyoaks star Emmett J Scanlan has thanked fans for their ‘staggering’ response to the re-airing of an iconic Brendan Brady episode.

With Hollyoaks having suspending production amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the serial drama has reduced its weekly transmissions from five to two in order to ensure it remains on screens for as long as possible.

To fill the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday gaps in the E4 schedule, classic episodes of the soap have been airing, and last night’s edition proved particularly popular with fans, as it featured iconic character Brendan Brady.

During the episode in question — which was initially broadcast back in 2013 — saw the character open up to Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) about the abuse he suffered.

Following it’s broadcast, actor Emmett J. Scanlan — who portrayed Brendan for three years in the Channel 4 soap — took to social media to thank followers for their response to the instalment.

He said: ‘7years ago I left this complicated chap behind. It was my first break in the UK. I have so many fond memories, even fell in love & married one of my co-stars. The response tonight from the fans has been staggering. To everyone who said yes to me, I will be forever grateful…’

Brendan was truly a beloved character, and — due to the overwhelming response — here’s hoping that there will be more classic episodes featuring him broadcast in the future.

Hollyoaks Favourites continues tonight with last yea’s unforgettable three-hander featuring Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin), Mitchell Deveraux (Imran Adams) and Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adams).

One to watch: Monday 20 April at 7pm on E4.
