‘He’s dead’ Graham Norton leaves Alison Hammond mortified over dead dog blunder

This Morning: Graham Norton reveals to Alison that his dog died

Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary presented This Morning as they took over from Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford as hosts of the Friday episodes. For their first show of 2021 together, the pair were joined by a number of celebrity guests including Graham Norton who has left BBC Radio 2 for a new weekend programme on Virgin Radio.

Kicking off the interview, Alison exclaimed how happy she was to see the chat show host as she recalled the last time they’d met.

However, when she asked about his pet pooch, she quickly regretted her question as Graham revealed his beloved dog had died.

“I miss you, I love you, the last time I saw you, you were out with your dog,” Alison remarked.

“I’ve just been told I’m going to get a four-legged friend. Have you still got your dog?”

Graham replied: “Erm, no, dead,” as Alison was left mortified: “oh I’m gutted, I’m so sorry.”

While Graham burst out laughing, Dermot could be seen with his head in hands over his colleague’s mistake.

“I’m absolutely devastated, I’m so sorry1 I’m so sorry,” Alison continued.

Graham apologised to Alison, insisting he had been “horrible” to her with his reaction.

As This Morning shared the awkward moment on Twitter, viewers demanded Eamonn and Ruth return to host the Friday episode.

“OMG bring back Eamonn and Ruth . Turning off now I’m afraid,” one viewer remarked.

Another added: “I absolutely love these 2 presenters but I don’t think they go together well on #ThisMorning.”

“Oh please bring back @EamonnHolmes and @RuthieeL,” a third begged.

“Alison IS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!!” a second tweeted while someone else continued: “@AlisonHammond you are brilliant.”

Graham’s appearance comes after he spoke to Chris Evans about joining Virgin Radio this weekend.

Speaking on Chris’ show this morning, he opened up about hosting both Saturday and Sunday: “The show to listen to is Sunday, because if everything goes alright on Saturday I’ll be really over confident on Sunday.”

“Even I keep forgetting about the Sunday show,” Graham remarked. “I hope I show up.

“I was in the supermarket yesterday looking at avocados thinking ‘Ooh, that’d be nice on Sunday mor… oh, no!’”

Graham also added he has “done a dummy run” and “really liked it,” confessing: “At Radio 2 I was never allowed to touch a button, I was just gloves on, and I’d sit there and talk.

“So everything happened around me. But here, I’m pushing some buttons and it’s pathetic how excited that makes me.”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
