Gemma Collins secretly broke down backstage after Dancing On Ice fall, reveals James Argent

The former Towie star revealed that despite the fact Gemma always puts on brave face, she crumbled as soon as she came off the ice after the dramatic on air tumble, which left her with a swollen knee.

Speaking on Loose Women today, he said: "I know Gemma better – she got up and put on a smiling face but she went backstage and the runner had to come and grab me because she's crying her eyes out – she was so embarrassed.

"As much as she loves being The GC she does have heart and thought, 'Everyone's going to me fun of me.'

"She had two big ice packs on her knees, crying, and I was like, 'Look Gemma, get yourself together, you've worked so hard in your routine,' probably the reason why she feel is she put everything into it.

"When we got home I even wanted people to actually see what she was going through. I put a picture on my Insta story, her knees were red raw, terrible bruises.

"She was in real pain and struggling to walk but I said to her, 'You have to be prepared you have to do the skate-off' so in her mind she was prepared to do the skate-off.

"But the public keep voting her! The public are on her side, it's GC fever."

He also hit back at the suggestion his partner might have faked the fall, claiming the last thing she needs is more publicity following her row with Jason Gardiner.

"Gemma, as much as I love her, I don't want to gas her up but she's probably the most talked about woman in the country,” he admitted.

"She smashes it every week, she had the row the week before. She's not going to risk a serious injury to smash her face to pieces and her teeth for publicity.

"She's the last person who needs publicity at the moment! If anything, she needs a bit less."

He also admitted he was looking forward to the series ending, thanks to the endless drama it seems to have created.
