Game of Thrones season 8 episode 4: Tyrion Lannister KILLS Bran Stark in Night King twist

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season eight, episode three.

Game of Thrones stunned viewers over the weekend as the Night King (played by Vladimir Furdik) was finally killed off after eight seasons of undead terror.

Most fans figured Jon Snow (Kit Harington) would be the person to finally kill the lord of the night, however it was Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) who eventually dealt the final blow, after seemingly appearing from nowhere.

Just before Arya leapt towards the Night King with her Valyrian steel blade, the evildoer and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) – best known now as the Three-Eyed Raven – shared a silent moment together.

Bran dropped the bombshell earlier this season that he was the main target of the Night King, as his powers granted him the “memories” of man.

But fans of the show have become convinced the brief encounter between the two prior to the Night King’s death may have served a more unnerving purpose, and could in fact be the birth of the next Night King – Bran.

Reddit user logicman101 recently wrote out exactly what they thought the interaction meant, and how it will eventually lead to the rise of a brand new villain.

They began: “I believe The [Night] King was going to give his sword to Bran and kneel just before he was stabbed.

“Azor Ahai playing out it’s prophecy and [prevented] this, but it may not be yet over. I still believe Bran is the true [Night King].”

The user then went on to predict what may happen in the upcoming final three episodes of the show – one of which includes a vision of an alternative reality.

They continued: “In an upcoming episode we may see some alternate reality play out in one of Bran’s visions, where we see the Night King kneel to pass on whatever power and magic is necessary to Bran.”

The “Bran is the Night King” theory has been floating around the fandom for some time now, and if it does eventually happen fans will surely be astounded by the final episode switch-up.

But fans have already begun thinking about how to defeat Bran if he does become the Night King in the upcoming episodes.

The fan continued: “The real [Night King] or the next in line [Night King] (Bran) will probably be defeated by some knowledge Tyrion [Peter Dinklage] gathered during his conversation with Bran.

“I believe that scene of Tyrion and Bran about to have a conversation truly foreshadowed something to come, some knowledge Tyrion learnt from Bran to defeat him.”

Fans will remember in episode two of season eight Tyrion was sat down with Bran to discuss the journeys they had both been on – but viewers were not privy to the conversation.

This may have indeed been a huge foreshadowing event for the final three episodes – but could Tyrion somehow hold the key to defeating Bran if he does become the Night King?

Meanwhile, other fans simply don’t believe the Night King is truly dead.

After eight seasons of build up and horror, some viewers were a little disappointed by the quick death the Night King suffered – however some fans believe he will be back with a vengeance.

Writing on the Game of Thrones subreddit, user ColdBeing wrote: “This was truly an amazing episode and the director did a fantasic job on the battle.

“But… they hyped up The Night King for seasons upon seasons, years upon years and this is how he goes out? There’s just no way. This plot is so stupid. I think there’s more going on then what meets the eye.”

Prior to the antagonist’s death, Bran warged out of the Godswood as a treachery of ravens – but viewers were not ever given a reason as to why, or where he went.

“Why else was Bran warged for so long?” the user continued. “Could it be going back in time to prevent all this bloodshed? Could he have been making a deal with The Night King?

“When The Night King walked up to Bran, he looked like he accepted his fate. I just feel like The Night King is Bran, The Night King was going to kill Bran to destroy himself.

“I mean the way The Night King just looked at Bran, it felt like he had to do it when he didn’t want to. Arya ruined the plans for Bran.

“After all this and then they’re already going to battle with Cersei? Something just doesn’t feel right.”

With endless possibilities on the horizon regarding the Night King and his potential return, fans are dying to see the next episode.

And with next episode looking to focus solely on Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and her quest to destroy Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), fans will most likely not see the arrival of the Night King, if he does return, until episode five.

Game of Thrones continues Sunday on HBO in the USA and the following day on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
