‘Fresh Off the Boat’ Cancelled After Constance Wu Was Upset About Its Sixth Season Renewal

The ABC television series finally gets canned after sixth season months after one of its main female stars publicly expressed her reluctance to return to the show.

AceShowbizConstance Wu‘s TV show “Fresh Off the Boat” has been cancelled following six seasons on the air after she publicly panned its renewal.

The “Crazy Rich Asians” actress hit headlines in May when she took to Twitter to express she was “so upset” about the show being renewed by ABC network bosses for another season, later clarifying she was heartbroken she had to axe another job in order to fulfill her contract work for the sitcom.

Moving forward Constance won’t have to worry about starring in any future episodes, as “Fresh Off the Boat” will conclude for good when the sixth season finale airs in February 2020.

“I’m so proud of the show and what we’ve accomplished over the past six seasons,” showrunner Nahnatchka Khan wrote on Friday, November 8 in a statement announcing the sitcom’s cancellation. “Thank you to everyone at ABC and 20th Century Fox Television for going on this ride with us. It was truly a special experience and hopefully will forever be a reminder of all the stories out there that deserve to be told. Like (late rapper) B.I.G. said, ‘And if you don’t know, now you know.’ “

“Fresh Off the Boat” was the first broadcast sitcom about an Asian-American family since Margaret Cho‘s series “All-American Girl” debuted in 1994.

Constance has not yet commented on the series’ cancellation, but her co-star Hudson David Yang has already bid it farewell.

“Bye fam…love u all,” he wrote on Twitter on Friday in response to the news. “We got a bunch of episodes left this season so pls (sic) watch them before we go.”
