First trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 2 teases assassination of President, time travel and wild cults

THE Umbrella Academy is back with the season two trailer promising more apocalyptic hi-jinx among the superhuman siblings.

Netflix dropped the trailer on Wednesday ahead of the July 31 premiere of The Umbrella Academy's sophomore season.

It shows viewers that Five was right when he warned his adopted family that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky.

Sir Reginald's adopted children end up scattered in and around Dallas, Texas over a three year period starting in 1960.

Some of them have moved on and started completely new lives in the vintage timeline.

Five appears to have landed just days before the assassination of US President John F Kennedy and the trailer reveals the impending apocalypse is tied in directly to his death.

They have to figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop the Vanya's 2019 apocalypse.

But all the while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins.

The trailer is packed with the show's trademark humour and quirks – including Klaus becoming a cult leader in his timeline.

New character Lila (Ritu Arya) hilariously tells Diego: "You're like an open book for very dumb children."

The Umbrella Academy is based on the comic book series created and written by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.

It tells the story how on the same day in 1989, forty-three infants were inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before.

Seven are adopted by billionaire, Sir Reginald, who created The Umbrella Academy and prepared his "children" to save the world.

But that didn't go to plan as they grew up disillusioned and off the rails.

The siblings came together to figure out how their adopted dad died and to try and stop the 2019 apocalypse.

Featured in the trailer is an original song byGerard called Here Comes The End, Gerard explained how the wild news events of 2020 shaped the song.

On writing the song, Gerard said: “I was originally inspired to write this track when series one of The Umbrella Academy was being shot; by the time I finished it 2020 was in full swing, the world had taken a profound turn and the song was finished in a surreal new reality.”
