Enola Holmes on Netflix release date, cast, trailer, plot – all about new movie

Enola Holmes is a character who comes from a collection of spin-off stories by Nancy Springer. She spins off, of course, from the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, and is written as a younger sister, who turns out to also have a mind for solving mysteries. Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things fame plays her in an upcoming movie for Netflix – here is everything there is to know about the film so far.

When is Enola Holmes released on Netflix?

As with many movies at the moment, distributors are turning to streaming platforms to release their films rather than the usual methods of cinematic screenings.

This is due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing many cinemas to close, and leaving cinema fans concerned about heading to their local for a film release.

Nevertheless, fans will get the chance to watch Enola Holmes in the comfort of their own homes, on September 23.

This date was a little difficult to work out, as Netflix is already trying to test its fandom.

Rather than explicitly revealing the release date, the trailer for Enola Holmes was accompanied by an anagram, reading: “alone loshme reeebtpms wnettyrhitd.”

While this may mean little to most people, when the anagram is worked out, it reads: “Enola Holmes September Twenty-third.”

As a result, fans do not have long to wait for the film to come to the streaming platform.

Who is in the cast of Enola Holmes?

Millie Bobby Brown takes the lead in the movie as Enola, the clever, young girl who proves vital in solving some important mysteries.

Of course, Enola does not work alone and has help from her older brothers, Sherlock and Mycroft, who are played in this version by Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin, showing brains and brawn really do go together.

Helena Bonham Cartner plays Eudoria Holmes, the mother of the Holmes family, who, in one of the books, goes missing herself, and Louis Partridge plays ‘a young runaway Lord’.

Other roles are played by Fiona Shaw, Adeel Akhtar, Frances de la Tour and Susan Wokoma but, as any Holmes story should be, their roles have remained a mystery.

What is the plot of Enola Holmes?

On this topic, fans have a little more to go on, with Netflix providing some information on the upcoming film.

The official synopsis reads: “After a free-spirited childhood, Enola suddenly finds herself under the care of her brothers Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft (Sam Claflin), both set on sending her away to a finishing school for ‘proper’ young ladies.”

“Refusing to follow their wishes, Enola escapes to search for her mother in London.

“But when her journey finds her entangled in a mystery surrounding a young runaway Lord (Louis Partridge), Enola becomes a super-sleuth in her own right, outwitting her famous brother as she unravels a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history.”

Is there a trailer for Enola Holmes?

There is a trailer, which was newly released by Netflix.

In the trailer, Enola Holmes is seen running from the life she is supposed to live, and going on an adventure where she proves to her brothers she is more than just a young girl – but can sleuth and solve with the best of them.
