Emmerdale to explore backstory of unfortunate character in shock storyline

Emmerdale viewers are set to learn a little more about one character through Bernice Blackstock’s Botox nightmare.

Spoilers already released have revealed Bernice will put her life in danger after she tries Botox to reduce the affects of her 50 years.

But not only will we see more of her and her relationship with Dr Liam Cavanaugh, who is shocked bu the entire situation, but viewers will find out more about the driver of the whole affair: the nasty schoolgirl and Liam’s daughter, Leanna.

Leanna has been the author of a great deal of trouble in the village, when she posted horrendous things about Maya Stepney (though these will hopefully be discovered as truth in the future) and when she got the kids joyriding, leading to Noah Dingle and Amelia Shepherd’s almost-arrest.

But it turns out there may be more going on behind the eyes when it comes to Leanna, and her sad past will be explored through Bernice’s difficult ordeal.

Jonny MacPherson, who plays Liam, told Digital Spy : "Leanna is, without question, very troubled. But through the Botox story, it comes to light that the reason Leanna is so troubled is that Dr Cavanagh’s first wife – and her mum – died of an anaphylactic shock.

"So this will bring stuff back for Leanna as well. You discover more about Leanna and why she behaves the way she does. She’s not just pure evil. Although some of the stuff she does is pretty bad!"

After Bernice’s shocking allergic reaction, which is similar to her mum’s, Kerry Wyatt, who administers the Botox, reveals that it was Leanna who made the suggesiton, leading to a catfight where Bernice’s mum diane has to step in and stop the pair from fighting.

Samantha Giles, who plays Bernice, added: "It’s quite nice because Bernice and Leanna are able to build some bridges. Leanna obviously feels terrible about what she’s encouraged Bernice to do, especially because Bernice could have died. So that brings them a bit closer together.

"As for whether Bernice could be a good stepmother to Leanna, who knows? It depends on how Gabby and Leanna get on, because their relationship is a bit fractious. But there’s potential for that to happen."

Emmerdale continues on New Year’s Eve at 7pm on ITV.
