Emmerdale star reveals Leyla will 'act accordingly' as her tormentor is revealed

Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) endures a hellish week in Emmerdale and, therefore, she makes her mission to get to the bottom of who is causing her so much anguish.

David (Matthew Wolfenden) has a chat with a man named Gaz, who proceeds to reveal that he’s on his way to meet a loose woman.

However, little does David know that the woman in question that is none other than Leyla, but he soon discovers just that, and he’s left confused.

You see, Leyla has only just rekindled her romance with Liam (Jonny McPherson), which is why David, Liam and Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) are baffled by such a development.

Matters are made all the more confusing when Gaz approaches Leyla and they enter Take A Vow together.

Leyla seemingly picks up on what Gaz is after, and she’s horrified by what has transpired.

Speaking about this, actress Roxy Shahidi told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think once Gaz is gone she trusts that he was there for that afternoon, I don’t think she worries that there’s going to be any repercussions after that, but definitely initially when she’s in that situation — in her office, alone with the door closed and no-one else can hear them — I think in that moment she’s very scared.’

‘And he does some quite mean words to say to her, but I think once he leaves, she’s more concerned as to how she ended up on there, and why she ended up on there, and who could be doing this, because obviously there’s more than just this that’s happened.’

There certainly is more to it, and matters become much worse for Leyla when she’s cornered in Take A Vow by a mystery assailant.

Roxy continued: ‘That’s the climax of the scary events. I don’t think there could be anything more intimidating than going into a space where you think you’re safe and someone being there.

‘I mean, her first thought is ‘they want to hurt me’. One of the things she says to Liam is that she’s scared that someone is going to stab her in her bed — literally those words, because every part of her world is being invaded.’

‘Of course, it’s terrifying, and it’s very very real to have someone in your space like that.  But she does defend herself. She does throw something at them, she doesn’t just cower in the corner. But she’s definitely very scared and I think being broken into and someone hiding in the dark is definitely the climax of that.’

Leyla’s no doubt shaken following what has transpired, but she soon puts two and two together and works out who is responsible for all the hell she has endured over the last couple of weeks.

The question is: how will she react?

What’s more, will she take action?

Roxy said: ‘I think it depends on who it turns out to be and what their motives are. Given the right set of circumstances, she can be very empathetic, she can be a very forgiving and understanding person.

‘Equally, she is someone who will stick up for herself, and isn’t just going to be walked all over, so I think once she finds out, she’ll act accordingly depending on who that person is. ‘
