Emmerdale announces new cast member with actor Will Ash joining Dingle family

Emmerdale has announced a brand new cast member for the Dingle family, as fan-favourite Cain Dingle will be reunited with his long-lost brother Caleb Miligan during the ITV soap's Christmas storyline.

The village bad boy, played by Jeff Hordley, will have the shock of his life when Caleb, played by newcomer Will Ash, arrivesC in the Yorkshire Dales for a festive showdown.

Caleb is the antithesis of small-town mechanic Cain, and has spent his life travelling up the ranks to become a successful and well-connected businessman.

Demanding answers from his brother, Caleb causes plenty of problems for the Dingle family from the get-go.

Not only is his existence a complete surprise to Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), but when the Woolpack co-owner realises Cain has been hiding Caleb from her since they were barely teenagers, it causes even more friction between the pair.

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw shed light on how the plot will unfold this Christmas.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Will Ash to the Village," she said. "It's fantastic to have such a high calibre and immensely talented actor join our wonderful team.

"Arriving on screen on Christmas Day, Caleb has to undoubtedly be the most unexpected and shocking Christmas gift Cain and Chas have ever received!

"Calm and in control, rich and successful, at first glance Caleb is everything his brother isn't, but will the pair find they have more in common than they thought?

"What secrets from the past will come back to haunt them and how will the rest of the family react when Caleb strolls into town?" Laura continued to tease, promising the character's arrival will "shake things up" in the village.

The producer also insisted the storyline will start off 2023 "with a huge bang" as the Dingles have yet another family drama to navigate.

Waterloo Road actor Will is already excited to be joining the soap, as he opened up on his new role.

“I’m thrilled to be joining such an iconic show," the new Dingle shared. "Emmerdale is packed full of fantastic actors and I'm really looking forward to working alongside them.

"Caleb is a fantastically complex character and I can’t wait to get stuck in," the star added.

Elsewhere, there could be trouble for another Dingle over Christmas as Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is still in the dark about Mackenzie and Chloe's big secret – that he is her unborn baby's father.

Chloe recently promised not to expose Mack, prompting him to panic over his future with the pub landlord.

As a result, he proposed to Charity, and the couple seem happier than ever as they prepare for their fairytale future – a hint that it won't be long before all comes crashing down in true soap-fashion.

Will Charity learn the truth on Christmas Day just as she's about to meet another cousin?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV
