EastEnders star's 'company shuts down owing £40,000 in taxes'

EastEnders star Jessie Wallace’s company has reportedly shut down owing £40,000 in taxes.

The actress, who plays Kat Slater in the long-running BBC One serial drama, placed Thatcher Promotions in voluntary liquidation in 2015.

The Mirror reports that the company owed nearly £70,000 in unpaid corporation tax and VAT, which liquidators have been working to recoup ever since.

A law firm was allegedly hired to ensure Jessie — the only director of the firm — repaid the money by putting a legal charge on her home.

It is claimed that the EastEnders actress ended up paying £60,000, but much of this money went to cover legal fees.

As a result, £27,000 was allegedly paid out of the £70,000 owed in tax, as the liquidators ‘fully wound up’ the business in documents lodged with Companies House.

The liquidators’ report reportedly reveals that Jessie had agreed to pay back the money, but payments ‘were not regular’.

It read: ‘Instalments were agreed to repay the loan but unfortunately they were not regular and continued chasing was required.

‘Therefore, to secure the debt, I instructed solicitors to place a charge upon her property.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Jessie’s reps for comment.

Jessie made her first appearance in EastEnders in 2000, when Kat arrived in Walford with the entire Slater clan in tow.

The actress left in 2005, but ultimately returned in 2010, in a year which saw Kat take over The Queen Vic.

The character was written out of the serial drama in 2016, and featured in spin-off series Redwater, before ultimately returning to EastEnders in 2018.

During her multiple stints in the soap, Jessie has featured in a number of popular storylines — including the famous ‘You ain’t my mother’ showdown, which saw Kat reveal that she was Zoe’s (Michelle Ryan) mum.

Jessie also played soap icon Pat Phoenix in 2010’s The Road To Coronation Street —a performance for which she received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
