Eastenders star Stephen Rahman-Hughes axed after character’s cheating exposed

Hunk Stephen Rahman-Hughes has been axed from EastEnders.

The 49-year-old has already filmed his final scenes as love cheat Adam Bateman.

They will be shown later this year.

A show insider said: “Producers have decided it’s the end of the road for Adam. It was decided to write the character out.

“His turbulent relationship with Honey Mitchell has kept viewers hooked. But once his cheating is exposed, the storyline comes to a natural end, so bosses decided not to renew Stephen’s contract.”

Stephen first arrived in Albert Square in the summer last year.

Bosses have been “thrilled” with his performances during his time on the show.

Our source added: “Stephen has been a fantastic part of the show. The decision to axe his character is no reflection on his performance.”

Stephen, right, now plan to focus on theatre work in the coming months.

A source close to the actor said: “He has a number of options to explore now he’s finished on the show.”

Stephen leaving Walford will be the latest high-profile exit. Charlie Winter, who played Hunter Owen, was killed off in dramatic scenes. And Tamzin Outhwaite has filmed her final scenes as his mum Melanie.

But show boss Kate Oates said: “There’s so much going on in Walford. In true EastEnders tradition, Christmas is huge.”
