Whitney Dean (played by Shona McGarty) is still waiting to find out her fate after Leo King (Tom Wells) was killed earlier this year. However, with a life sentence on the cards, and Gray Atkins (Toby Alexander Smith) unable to fight for her case, it seems the drama isn’t over on EastEnders.

Shona McGarty and Sonia Fowler actress Natalie Cassidy joined Stacey Dooley this week on EastEnders: Secrets from the Square.

“Today, we found out what has been happening with our characters over lockdown,” Natalie explained.

“We’ve just had a conversation with Sonia, Whitney and Dotty [Cotton (Milly Zero)].”

Shona added: “I thought Dotty and Whitney would be pulling clumps of hair out of each other.

“But Whitney and Sonia have become really close and I think Whitney has supported Sonia through a really hard time.”

The two went on to explain how Sonia is on the frontline when the show returns, as a nurse in an intensive care unit.

And Whitney has been volunteering to help children.

“She’s got a lot of time for children,” Shona added.

“Whitney has always wanted a load of children but never got it.

“It’s always been so close and then it’s been snatched away from her,” the actress remarked.

Despite so much turmoil going on in Whitney’s life, the star could be hinting at a happily ever after.

If Whitney is found innocent, she could decide to start a brand new life for herself.

Sonia would be on hand to help and she might not have to keep thinking of herself as the girl who will never be allowed anything she wants.

A new resident could rock up on the street and offer her the life she deserves.

Or maybe she could ask someone she is close to one the square to be a sperm donor.

Either that or she could find herself pregnant totally by accident.

Whitney has been getting a little too close to Gray over the last few weeks.

After kissing him in the same place Leo was killed, she was issued with a stark threat from Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plummer).

But, if Whitney were to fall pregnant after an affair with Gray, would she be able to keep it?

If Whitney is put in jail for good, this would be the end of her search for happiness, as it is snatched away from her once again.

It will all come down to whether or not it’s time for Whitney to get her happily ever after.

EastEnders returns to BBC One on September 7 at 8.05pm.
