EastEnders spoilers: Rainie Branning flees the Square in heartbreaking kidnap plot?

Rainie (played by Tanya Franks) arrived on EastEnders as the drug addict sister of Tanya Branning (Jo Joyner) in 2007, but her return to the BBC soap last year saw a new, reformed character marry her sister’s ex-husband Max Branning (Jake Wood) in a plot to help him win custody of grand-daughter Abi. However, recent episodes have seen the wayward Walford resident slip back down a murky road and tonight’s instalment saw her face more heartbreak, which could lead to a sudden exit from the Square.

Reformed villain and boyfriend Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ) has been helping Rainie get back on track after an injury left her addicted to painkillers.

Having fooled him she is on the road to recovery, the troubled character went looking for work in a hope she could get her hands on some cash to feed her addiction.

With baby Abi currently in the hands of her estranged husband Max, Rainie has been trying her best not to let on she is struggling with her demons.

However, could the implications of her addiction lead her to attempt a kidnapping of Abi following the repercussions of tonight’s instalment?

Arriving at Kathy Beale’s (Gillian Taylforth) cafe, the owner agreed to give her a trial, telling her son Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) would show her the ropes.

Fair to say, the businessman wasn’t on board with the idea and soon left the cafe in the hands of the trainee with trouble soon ensuing.

After hours running to ship solo, Rainie was told by Ian she wouldn’t get the job and wouldn’t be paid for her efforts, leading her to steal the tip jar.

At the same time, Max left Abi in the hands of Kathy as he had to dash out with the pair commuting on how well Rainie was doing.

As her demons reared her head following the stressful situation at the cafe, the addict soon quashed her estranged husband’s appraisal by getting her hands on a bottle of vodka.

Heading back to Stuart’s flat, Rainie took a swig but soon resented the idea of falling off the wagon when she saw a note left by her boyfriend.

Breaking down in tears, the troubled character poured the rest of the alcohol down the sink, but her actions didn’t go unnoticed.

Just when the addict had got rid of the vodka, Kathy walked in to hand baby Abi back to her surrogate grandmother and saw the bottle in Rainie’s hands.

“It’s not what it looks like,” the latter declared.

Furious with the deceit, Kathy hit back: “There’s me feeling sorry for you. I was just coming over here to offer you a job.”

Desperately trying to explain herself, the troubled character pleaded: “I just chucked it down the sink. I promise you.”

“Do you think I don’t know a lost cause when I see one. Well, well done Rainie, you’ve just blown your chances of seeing Abi,” the cafe owner scolded as she walked away with the youngster.
