EastEnders spoilers: Peter Beale leaves fans confused over big change to beloved character
Peter (played by Dayle Hudson) was reunited on-screen with his father Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) during last night’s instalment of EastEnders for the first time in five years. The comeback king made his return during the BBC soap’s anniversary week which saw the boat party tragedy unfold and his brother Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell) suffering a life-threatening injury. As the aftermath of the disaster continued to unfold in recent scenes, viewers realised the seventh actor portraying the role is significantly different from his predecessor.
It was announced just before Christmas that Peter would be returning to the Square five years after his twin sister Lucy Beale (Hetti Bywater) was accidentally killed by Bobby.
Actor Dayle takes on the role from former soap star, Ben Hardy, 29, and is set to take the beloved character in a new direction as it’s likely he will struggle to be a part of his brother’s life again.
With his teenage sibling still in hospital in last night’s episode, the former market stall trader came face-to-face with Ian, who had visited his son in New Zealand some months ago where he’d been living since his exit.
However, it was an awkward exchange between the pair viewers discovered the newcomer is taller than his predecessor, leaving them greatly confused.

Ben’s incarnation of Peter was just slightly taller than Ian, but when the father hugged his son last night, it was clear Dayle was a foot taller than actor Adam, 51.
Taking to Twitter, viewers were stunned by the height difference as one posted: “Has the new Peter Beale been having miracle grow?”
Another added: “Since when did Peter become a giant?!”, to which a third commented: “Just because Peter went to NZ doesn’t mean he had to grow a foot taller.”
A fourth remarked: “I still can’t get over how tall new Peter Beale is. They did not think scene framing through when they cast him.”

Around the time Peter left Walford, he was about 22-years-old, meaning it is unlikely the character would have suffered a natural growth spurt.
Although viewers are confused by the height difference now, they will soon be more focussed on the drama as it’s clear there is unresolved problems with his father.
In last week’s explosive episodes, it was revealed Ian had locked Sharon Mitchell’s (Letitia Dean) oldest son Dennis Rickman (Bleu Landau) inside a chamber below the decks of the boat before disaster struck.
The businessman was teaching the teenager a lesson for landing his son Bobby in hospital, but his actions lead to the death of the youngster.

Discussing his introduction to the soap, Dayle told The Sun: “I am really grateful and excited to have the opportunity to work on such an institution of British television, alongside some incredible actors.
“Peter has been away for some time so I can’t wait to find out what he’s been up to and I’m very excited to see what the future holds for him.”
Executive Producer Jon Sen said: “As soon as I met Dayle, I knew he’d be the one to bring Peter Beale back to Walford.
“Peter’s a young man with a big heart but a bruised soul and Dayle’s a talented actor who captures his complexity perfectly.”
