EastEnders’ Rita Simons and Samantha Womack recreate Mitchell sisters’ dramatic death in a BATHTUB on anniversary – The Sun

THE Mitchell sisters reunited on New Year's Eve to recreate their iconic deaths on EastEnders three years ago.

Ronnie and Roxy – played by Samantha Womack and Rita Simons – died in a horrific swimming pool accident on the night of Ronnie's wedding the Jack Branning.

And the actresses recreated the distressing scene with Samantha wrapped in a white duvet instead of Ronnie's wedding dress.

The funny pair climbed in a bathtub to recreate the swimming pool they drowned in.

Before their reunion Rita tweeted: "Spending New Year’s Eve with my sis @Sam_Womack.

"I really hope there’s not a swimming pool or we are SCREWED!

Samantha replied: "We need a live re-enactment. Game sis?????"

Rita can finally see the funny side of being written out of the soap after she previously said she was so traumatised by the Mitchell sisters' death that she refused to watch the funeral scenes.

As the girls celebrated her big day, Roxy jumped into the pool but failed to resurface and Ronnie jumped in to save her but drowned.Almost a year after the intense scenes aired, Rita said it took her a long time to watch her final scenes on the BBC soap.

Speaking to the Sunday People, she said: "It wasn't because I can't come back.

"I won't have to spend the rest of my life wondering if I'll get the call inviting me to return.

"We really loved those characters. We both found watching our death scene really distressing.

"It's horribly strange to see yourself and your best friend floating dead in a swimming pool.

"I'll always be grateful for a part that made me who I am today but the way Sam and I met our end was harsh, really traumatic."

Rita said the worst part about leaving the BBC soap was not seeing her co-star Samantha Womack on a near daily basis.

"She's like the sister I never had. One of the great sadnesses about leaving is I don't see her nearly enough any more. I miss her," she added.

"We'd work together all morning and then go off to get our nails done at lunchtime. We were inseparable."
