EastEnders Madeline Duggan working at a GP surgery 10yrs after Lauren exit as ‘being an out of work actress doesn’t pay’
EASTENDERS' Madeline Duggan said she's been working in a doctor's surgery a decade on from playing Lauren Branning.
The star, who appeared in last night's vintage episode of the soap, told her Twitter followers: "Being an out of work actress doesn’t pay."
Madeline, now 26, was one of the stars of the explosive EastEnders Christmas special where Max Branning and Stacey Slater's affair was revealed.
Like many of us, she watched along at home as the 2007 episode was aired on BBC1 on Tuesday night.
She explained that she had been working for a GP in a tweet earlier this year while talking about people swerving surgeries because of the coronavirus.
She wrote: "I know this because I work in a doctors surgery part time (because being an out of work actress doesn’t pay lol)."
Madeline first appeared on EastEnders in 2006 and kept the role for four years, before bosses brought in Jacqueline Jossa to play Lauren.
Answering questions on Twitter last night, Madeline said that in hindsight she was "very glad" she was replaced by the 27-year-old actress.
She said: "Unmmmmmmm I understand it more now lol I looked like a baby in that ep and I was tiny and didn’t grow (still only 5’2).
"I get that they wanted someone older to play different story lines & I'm very glad it happened."
Madeline added: "I was very young and it give me options to do other things and get an American agent and enjoy some teenage life without being on screen lol worked out for the best."
Fans were delighted to see her back on screen last night with one writing: "You will always be the ‘real’ Lauren character and it was great to see you again."
Another tweeted: "Well done! You and Lorna [Fitzgerald, who was Abi Branning] were so good. Brought back memories."
