EastEnders fans fears Dot will die after concerning voice message as she exits the soap

EASTENDERS fans fear Dot Branning will die after leaving cryptic messages for Sonia in last night's episode.

The Walford icon (June Brown) discovered that Martin Fowler (James Bye) swiped her savings – despite it being ex wife Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) who took the money to pay her blackmailer.

She ordered the pair out of her house earlier on in the episode, and later departed for Ireland to help her grandson Charlie Cotton take care of his new baby.

But viewers admitted they were "nervous" for the 92-year-old, with some jumping to morbid conclusions that it signals the end for Dot.

One said: "Dot will probably die when she’s in Ireland visiting Charlie. Her goodbye sounded so final."

Another said: "me thinking sonia was going to find dot’s body when she walked into her room #eastenders"

Another fan tweeted: "I think dots departure tonight was very final hope this isnt the end of her,she deserves so much more than that exit"

But others worried about legendary actress June, as one said: "I don’t think that was June Brown herself talking on the tape recording with Sonia. Looks as if that scene was added last minute. Is June ok I wonder…"

And one more said: "The recording of dot didn't sound like June Brown"

Actress June has played Dot for over three decades and took up the role in 1985, starring in the soap ever since.

Although Dot, who is known for her chain-smoking, working in the local launderette and being the long-suffering mum of criminal Nick Cotton, has had some periods of time away from the show.

June celebrated her 92nd birthday last year.

Her 90th birthday was marked with a special BBC show titled June Brown at 90: A Walford Legend, which focused on June’s life, career and her 30 years on EastEnders.

It featured tributes from co-stars including Danny Dyer, Adam Woodyatt, Gillian Taylforth, Rudolph Walker, Lacey Turner and Natalie Cassidy.

Before EastEnders, June had a small role on Coronation Street playing Mrs Parsons from 1970-71.

She was also known for her role in Doctor Who as Lady Eleanor, which she played from 1973-74.

Although EastEnders has taken up most of her time since 1985, June has also appeared in other TV shows including the 2003 mini-series Margery and Gladys, alongside Penelope Keith.

June was awarded the MBE in the 2008 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to drama and charity.
